ANNIE ALLETHA (MABRY) BREEDEN

      Mrs. Annie Alletha (Mabry) Breeden, 80 of Campbell Station died 
Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002 in Jonesboro. She was born Jan. 26, 1922 in 
Newport, the daughter of King James and Georgia (Duren) Mabry.
      Mrs. Breeden had worked as a nurse's aide at Harris Hospital and 
was a member of Campbell Station Baptist Church. She enjoyed helping 
others and going to church.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Joseph Breeden on 
July 14, 1966; one brother, James Mabry; and one grandchild, Karen Sue 
"Pridmore" Wimbish.
      Survivors include by two sons, William "Bill" Joseph Breeden of 
Jonesboro and James Paul Breeden of North Little Rock; one daughter, 
Virginia Fisher of Houston; one brother, W. J. Mabry of Beedeville; 
three brothers, Loreace Sims of Springfield, Lucretia Hodge and Betty 
Shirley of Malvern; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 
nine great-great-grandchildren.
      Funeral service is 10 a.m. Friday at Campbell Station Baptist 
Church with Rev. Dale Bonner officiating and Gary Pridmore assisting. 
Interment is in Ballews Chapel Cemetery in Grubbs.
      Pallbearers are Gary Pridmore, Bill Fisher, Nick Howell, Arthur 
Ringuet, David McCellan and Jeff Baker.

MARY ALICE MINOR
      
      Mrs. Mary Alice Minor, 93 of Harrisburg, died Feb. 26 at her home. 
She was born March 18, 1908 in Cherokee, Ala. the daughter of Samuel 
Wallace and Maude (Williams) Wallace. She was a homemaker and a former 
employee of Colbert County Hospital in Tuscumbia, Ala. She was of the 
Baptist faith.
      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 
husband, George W. Minor; four brothers, Johnny Wallace, Albert Wallace, 
Howard Wallace and Wesley Wallace; one sister, Ida Coffell; a 
granddaughter, Virginia Gill; and two great-grandchildren, Brandi 
Ralaigh and Bobbie Joan Crisp.
      Survivors include two sisters, Emma Yarbrough of Cherokee, Ala. 
and Molly Goodin of Heber Springs; five daughters, Mildred Jenkins of 
Harrisburg, Hazel Lindsey of Trumann, Catherine Grubbs of Haines City, 
Fla., Betty Biederstaedt of Harrisburg and Virginia Smith of Harrisburg; 
22 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
      Funeral service is 2 p.m. Friday at the Snowdown United Methodist 
Church in Iuka, Miss. with Rev. Albert Jenkins officiating. Burial is in 
Snowdown Cemetery.
      Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

DORIS JEAN JACKSON SUTHERLAND

      Graveside services for Mrs. Doris Jean Jackson Sutherland, 69 of 
Monroe, La., was 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2002 in Remmel-McCall 
Cemetery, Remmel, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, 
Sterlington Road, Monroe, La. Following the graveside service, there was 
a Celebration of Life at Remmel Community Center.
      Mrs. Sutherland was born March 25, 1932 in Cardwell, Mo. and died 
Feb. 25, 2002 in Monroe, La. She was the driving force at Sutherland 
Farms, a business she and her husband, Joe, started in Pennington. She 
was a member of the Church of Christ in Vidalia, La. She graduated from 
Tuckerman High School in 1951, where she was the treasurer of the senior 
class.
      She was preceded in death by her father, R. R. Jackson; mother and 
step-father, Gladdys and Ted Eddington; husband, Joe Sutherland; and 
sister, Barbara Eddington Roberts.
      Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Sallie 
Sutherland of Monroe, La.; daughter and son-in-law, Terrie and Damon 
Scott of Valrico, Fla.; grandchildren, Stephen Justin Sutherland, Joseph 
Bailey Sutherland and Katherine Anne Branciforte; and brothers, J.W. 
Jackson, Gerald Jackson and Bill Eddington.
      Mrs. Sutherland's family requested that memorials be made to Grace 
Episcopal Church, Monroe, La., or the Alzheimer's Association.

MARY ALICE BAGWELL

      Mrs. Mary Alice Bagwell, 70 of Beedeville, died Sunday, March 3, 
2002 in Searcy. She was born Aug. 22, 1922 in Elizabeth the daughter of 
James Arthur and Versie (Finnley) Green. 
      Mrs. Bagwell worked for 20 years at Royal Shoe Co. in McCrory and 
helped in farming. She enjoyed quilting, fishing, crocheting, cooking 
and babysitting.
      Mrs. Bagwell was preceded in death by her husband, Handford 
Bagwell in August of 1989; three sons; one brother, Vernie Green; one 
grandson, Luther Handford Stone; and one granddaughter, Pamela Adams.
      She is survived by two sons, Jimmy Bagwell of Overcup and David 
Bagwell of Beedeville; three daughters, Geraldine Bagwell of Beedeville, 
Linda Stone of Beedeville and Patsy White of Hickory Ridge; two 
brothers, Robert Green of Jonesboro and Earl Green of McCrory; four 
sisters, Emmer Gaddis of Remmel, Jewel Wooldridge of Bono, Norma Lee 
Fortune of Newport and Lula Mae Sanders of Dolph; eight grandchildren 
and three great-grandchildren.
      Funeral service is 2 p.m. Wednesday at Jackson's Newport Funeral 
Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Buttgen officiating. Interment is in Eightmile 
Cemetery in Beedeville.
      Pallbearers are Howard Beshears, Neal Mann, Franklin "Sonny" Page,

RUBY MAE BALLARD

      Ruby Mae Ballard, 69 of Grubbs, died Saturday at her home. She was 
a homemaker and of the Baptist belief. 
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Ballard, and her 
parents, Charlie and Daisy London Smith.
      Survivors include one son, Franklin and wife Diann Ballard of 
Grubbs; one grandchild, Alyson Ballard of Tuckerman; one great-
grandchild, Kaleb Ballard of Tuckerman; three brothers, Jerry Smith of 
Grubbs, Nathan Smith of Van Buren and Boyd Smith of South Carolina; one 
sister, Inez Jones of Tuckerman.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday at Dillinger Funeral Home Chapel 
with burial in Ballews Chapel in Grubbs.

MARJORIE BOWDEN

      Marjorie Bowden, 71 of Fort Smith, died Friday in a Van Buren 
hospital. 
      She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Salma 
Bowden; and sister, Martha Jane Bowden, who died at birth. Mrs. Bowden 
was a Methodist Missionary, and she served in India and Africa.
      Survivors include one daughter, Gloria Kauffman of Tuscon, Ariz.; 
one brother, B.P. Bowden of Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, Andy and wife 
Raegon Bowden of Houston, Texas, Marjorie and husband Jim Trammell of 
Ogden, Utah; great-nieces and nephews, Ross and Wesley Bowden, and 
Samantha Trammell; cousins, Bob Swink, Sr. of Newport, Evelyn Swink 
Wilson of Michigan, John Montgomery, Marty Montgomery and Debbie 
Montgomery, all of Dallas, Texas, Mary Montgomery of St. Louis, Mo., and 
Troy Montgomery of Chaffee, Mo.
      Funeral was 10 a.m. Monday at Swifton Methodist Church with Rev. 
Rom Williams officiating. Burial was in Swifton Cemetery. Pallbearers 
were James Tinsley, Steven Tinsley, Hubert Norris, Jerry King and Bill 
Bishop. Honorary pallbearer was Bob Swink, Sr.

      Mr. Tim Burgin of DeWitt, formerly of Newport, died Saturday, 
March 2, 2002 in DeWitt.

JOE HARLEY CARR

      Joe Harley Carr, 71 of Warren, died Saturday, March 2 in Little 
Rock. He was born July 4, 1930 in Cleveland County a son of the late 
Jesse William Carr and Oval Carr. He was a retired construction worker, 
a Mason and a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving in the U.S. Army.
      Survivors are four sons, Mike Carr of Jacksonville, Tommy Carr of 
California, Bobby Carr of Jacksonville and Steven Carr of Texas; three 
daughters, Mary Dougan of El Dorado, Donna Carr of Montana and Teresa 
Kay Carr of Jacksonville; two brothers, John Carr of Warren, Penn. and 
Frank William Carr of California; five sisters, Billie Carr of New 
Orleans, La., Carolyn Gardner of Warren, Jerri Groves of Bradford, Sue 
Lawson of Fordyce and Effie Pearson of Harrison; several grandchildren 
and many nieces and nephews.
      Funeral service was 1:30 p.m. Monday at Frazer's Chapel with 
burial in Oakland Cemetery.

INFANT JAZMINE MARGREE DODSON

      Infant Jazmine Margree Dodson, one month old of Augusta, died 
Thursday, Feb. 28, 2002 in Searcy. She was born in Searcy on Jan. 29, 
2002 the daughter of Jessey Stephens and Sheneatha Dodson.
      She was preceded in death by her paternal grandmother, Alice Faye 
Stephens; maternal grandfather, Earl Dodson; and maternal great-
grandparents, Horace and Margree McLucas.
      Infant Jazmine is survived by her father, Jessey Stephens of 
McCrory; her mother, Sheneatha Dodson of Augusta; one brother, Jashon P. 
Stephens of Augusta; one sister, Alkeidra Kyshae Dodson of Augusta; 
maternal grandfather and wife, Larry and Betty Dodson of Newport; 
maternal grandmother, Alice (McLucas) Dodson of Augusta; paternal 
grandfather, Jessie Russell; paternal great-grandmothers, Julia Virginia 
Smith of McCrory and Lucille Russell of Augusta; and maternal great-
grandmother, Dorothy Dodson of Lonoke.
      Graveside service was 10 a.m. Monday at Quiet Cemetery in Augusta.

F. S. DURHAM

      Mr. F. S. Durham, 94 of Harrisburg, died Saturday in Lake City. He 
was born Oct. 5, 1907 in Borden, Ind., the son of Ben S. Durham and Mary 
Elizabeth (Mull) Durham. He was a retired school teacher and minister. 
He was the first resident preacher for the Harrisburg Church of Christ 
in 1948, was a graduate of Harding College in Searcy and taught in the 
Harrisburg School System for many years. 
      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two wives, 
Etta (Lewellyn) Durham and Evelyn (Stephens) Durham; a son, Leslie 
Durham; a daughter, Mildred Montgomery; and two sisters, Mable Vest and 
Lucille Kidd.
      Mr. Durham is survived by two sisters, Marie Mahuron of Salem, 
Ind. and Lela Macy of Ft. Pierce, Fla.; one son, Ronald Durham of 
Illinois; four grandchildren, Allen Montgomery, Dana Montgomery, Marta 
Ayers and Scott Durham; five great-grandchildren and one great-great-
grandchild.
      Funeral service was 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Jackson's Harrisburg 
Funeral Home Chapel with Mr. Bill Willard officiating. Interment 
followed in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.

VERNON L. GOLDEN

      Mr. Vernon L. Golden, 87 of McCrory, died Sunday, March 3, 2002 in 
Searcy. 
      He was a Shelter Insurance agent since 1958, a member and board 
member of the McCrory Church of God, and he loved his family, church, 
coon hunting, fishing, traveling, and especially his grand- and great-
grandchildren.
      Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Ottie Faye Daniel Golden; two 
sons, Waldene Golden of McCrory and Gary Golden of Searcy; two 
daughters, Jestene Raynolds and Betty O'Shields, both of McCrory; one 
brother, Richard Jones of Russellville; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-
grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of other family 
and friends.
      Funeral service was Tuesday at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home Chapel 
in McCrory with Rev. Wendell Belford officiating, assisted by Rev. Roger 
Baker. Burial was in Woodman Cemetery.
      Pallbearers were Phillip Golden, Ricky Golden, Derek Reynolds, 
Shannon Reynolds, Colby Golden, Bari O'Shields, Shawn O'Shields, Jeremy 
Suratt and Craig Golden.

LUTHER GRIFFIN JONES, JR.

      Luther Griffin Jones, Jr. passed away on March 3, 2002. He was 
born on June 18, 1916 in McCrory. His parents were Luther Griffin Jones, 
Sr. an Nannie Pearl Porter Jones. 
      He is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy McIntosh Sheehan 
Jones; children, Luther Griffin Jones III (Lynn), Neva Jean Honeycutt 
(Douglas), Drue Combs (Ken) and Walter Sheehan (Cathy); seven 
grandchildren, Tracy Wyn Jurek (Tim), Victor McCrory Dobro (Amy), Luther 
Griffin Jones IV, John Taylor Jones, Katherine Banning, Sean Sheehan and 
Andrew Sheehan; great-grandchild, Whitney Marie Dobro; brothers, Joe 
Jones (Lanita) of Virginia Beach, Va., John Paul Jones (Lu) of Little 
Rock and Earl Jones (Vivian) of Newport; and a sister, Pearl Gardner of 
Franklin, Tenn.
      Mr. Jones spent his young years in Wynne where his father was a 
signalman for the Missouri Pacific Railroad. When he was in high school, 
his parents moved to Newport, where he graduated from Newport High 
School in 1934. He began his worklife with the railroad and at Plunkett 
& Jarrell Grocery Company. He also worked as manager of a local gas 
station in Newport.
      He loved to tell the story of entering the Army as a Private at 
the "invitation" of his local draft board during World War II. He 
attended Officer Candidate School, was commissioned, and rose to the 
rank of Colonel. He served honorably for 29 years. He knew the 
importance of education and while serving his country actively in the 
Army, he was able to attend night school and achieved both a Bachelor's 
degree in Military Affairs and a Master's degree of International 
Affairs. He had grown to love Corpus Christi during his military service 
and decided to stay. 
      Funeral service is 3 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist 
Church at 900 Shoreline Blvd. in Corpus Christi with military Honor 
Guard interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Cemetery.


MILDRED ELIZABETH LEWIS

      Mildred Elizabeth Lewis was born Sept. 2, 1909 in Remmel and 
passed from this life on Feb. 28, 2002. She was the daughter of Terrance 
and Lizzie Huey of the Remmel Community. She is preceded in death by her 
husband of 63 years, Walter Lewis; her parents; and one great-grandson, 
Marcus Terrance Nelson.
      She is survived by one daughter, Norma Nelson of Newport; one 
sister, Ruth Benson of Remmel; one granddaughter, Billie Jean Rice of 
Newport; one grandson, Mark Lewis Nelson of Judsonia; three great-
granddaughters, Elizabeth Ham and Kristie Dixon, both of Blytheville and 
Lennen Nikko Nelson of Heber Springs; and two great-great-
granddaughters, Chloe Michele Ham and Lauren Elizabeth Dixon of 
Blytheville.
      She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ and worked at 
Van Atkins and Farmers Supply for many years.
      Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, graveside at Remmel McCall 
Cemetery with J.C. McMinn officiating.

JOHN C. MOORE

      Mr. John C. Moore, 79 of Hickory Ridge, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 
2002 in Batesville. He was born Sept. 27, 1922 in Alabama, the son of 
F.L. and Tina Louise Maikler Moore, who preceded him in death. He was a 
retired farmer and tree surgeon, of the Assembly of God faith, and loved 
deer hunting, dominoes, checkers, watching wrestling on T.V., gardening 
and visiting with family and friends.
      Survivors include sons, Marvin Moore of Grubbs, William Moore of 
Blytheville, Calvin Moore and Michael Moore, both of Lepanto, Jimmy 
Moore and Carlton Moore, both of McCrory; two daughters, Mary E. 
Linvelle of Grubbs and Lisa Jean Williams of Mountain View; three 
sisters, Mary Hodge of Moulton, Ala., Ella Jane Sellers of Portage, Wis. 
and Lillie Mae Maxwell of Memphis, Tenn.; 32 grandchildren and 19 great-
grandchildren.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Monday at Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home 
Chapel in McCrory with burial in Lewis Cemetery.
      Pallbearers were Ricky Linville, Anthony Moore, Robert Rogers, 
Alan Chandler, Kevin Fisher and Mark Smith. Honorary pallbearer was 
Jimmy Linville.

LOUISE OSBORNE

      Mrs. Louise Osborne, 76 of Heber Springs, died Feb. 28 in Searcy. 
She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ. 
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Odell.
      Survivors include one son, Bobby Osborne of Newport; one daughter 
and son-in-law, Wanda and Ray Sullins of Fairfield Bay; one brother, 
Sonny Jackson of Newport; grandchildren, Linda and Freddy Humphreys of 
Newport, Scotty and Linda Sullins of Batesville, Dr. Becky Osborne of 
Mississippi and Greg Osborne of Jonesboro; and three great-
grandchildren.
      Funeral services were 2 p.m. Saturday at Dillinger Funeral Home 
Chapel with Llano Robinson officiating. Burial was in Coffeyville 
Cemetery near Bradford.

OLLIE MARIE PAGE

      Ollie Marie Page, 46 of Harrisburg, died Thursday in Jonesboro. 
Mrs. Page was born Aug. 24, 1955 in San Francisco, Calif. to the late 
Leonard and Ina Elizabeth (Garrett) Yarbrough. 
      Mrs. Page is survived by her husband, Sgt. Major Jimmie C. Page of 
the home; four sisters, Mary Elizabeth Yarbrough, Flora Rea Ceragiol and 
Inetta Pearl Hines, all of Concord, Calif., and Anna Loraine Reynolds of 
Dallas, Texas; three sons, James Robert Page of Jonesboro, Jesse 
Cleveland and Joshua Daniel Page, both of Harrisburg.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday at Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral 
Home Chapel with Larry Tribbell officiating. Interment followed in 
Bethel Cemetery near Harrisburg.

      James Butler Pilkinton, 79 of Newport, died Monday, March 4 in 
Newport. He was a retired carpenter and a member of the United Pentecost 
Church of Newport. Mr. Pilkinton was preceded in death by his parents, 
Robert and Mary Pilkinton.
      Survivors are his wife, Dorothy Carlisle Pilkinton of Newport; one 
son, Jim and wife Elizabeth Pilkinton of Sulphur Springs, Texas; step-
son, Steve Freeman of Newport; step-daughter, Teresa Tidwell of Newport; 
brother, Robert Pilkinton of Mayflower; sister, Lois Wynn of Water 
Valley, Miss.; grandchildren, Jacob Allen and Jonathan Pilkinton of 
Sulphur Springs, Texas; step-grandchildren, James and Katrina Armstrong 
of Batesville, Patrick Armstrong of Newport; and one step-great-
grandson, Marcus Allen James of Batesville.

ANN PRINCE

      Mrs. Ann Prince, 70 of Grubbs, died Sunday, March 3, 2002 in 
Newport. She was born Dec. 23, 1931 in Jackson County the daughter of 
Fred and Leona (Morgan) Simmons.
      Mrs. Prince was a homemaker and was of the Baptist belief.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Boyce Prince on Nov. 3, 
1982; and one son, Allen Prince on July 1, 1989.
      Survivors include two sons, Billy Prince of Grubbs and Rick Prince 
and wife Michelle of Jonesboro; one daughter, Lisa Jobe and husband 
Michael of Jonesboro; one brother, Ernest Simmons of Noblesville, Ind.; 
one sister, Ruby Holmes of Grubbs; and five grandchildren, Brian Jobe, 
Michael Jobe, II, Jessica Jobe, Cordale Prince and Daniel Jobe.
      Funeral service is 2 p.m. Thursday at Jackson's Newport Funeral 
Home Chapel with Bro. Larry Miles officiating. Interment is in Ballews 
Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is 6-9 p.m. Wednesday.

TEDDY BASIL PRINE

      Mr. Teddy Basil Prine, 84 of Newport, died Saturday, March 2, 2002 
in Newport. He was born April 20, 1917 in Newport the son of James Henry 
and Virgie (Clark) Prine. Mr. Prine was a member of the Assembly of God 
Church.
      He was preceded in death by one brother, A.A. Prine, and two 
sisters, Merle Spicer and Gladys Cleo Maples.
      Mr. Prine is survived by one brother, Buster Burl Prine of

TIM BURGIN

      Mr. Tim Burgin, 39 [sic] of DeWitt, died Saturday, March 2, 2002 
in DeWitt. He was born July 14, 1965 in Newport, the son of Charles and 
Carol (Hoffmeister) Burgin.
      Mr. Burgin graduated from Newport High School in 1983. He worked 
at Lennox Factory in Stuttgart for several years and was a member of the 
Faith Baptist Church. Mr. Burgin was an avid duck and goose hunter and 
enjoyed hunting arrowheads.
      He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Edith 
Hoffmeister; maternal grandfather, Ervin Hoffmeister, Sr.; paternal 
grandfather, Russell Burgin; and one uncle, Jimmie Lemons.
      Mr. Burgin is survived by his wife, Becki (Atkinson) Burgin of 
DeWitt; one step-daughter, Tiffani Wright of DeWitt; his parents, 
Charles and Carol (Hoffmeister) Burgin of Newport; two brothers, Mike 
Burgin and wife Carla of Newport, and Richie Burgin and wife Leslie of 
Walnut Ridge; one nephew, Chaz Burgin; three nieces, Sydney Burgin,

KENNY DECKELMAN

      Mr. Kenny Deckelman, 50 of Harrisburg, died March 4 in Jonesboro. 
He was born Nov. 6, 1951 in Harrisburg the son of L.D. Deckelman and 
Bobbye Sue (Scoggins) Deckelman. He was a lifelong resident of 
Harrisburg and a member of the Harrisburg First Baptist Church. He was a 
former counselor for CYS in Jonesboro. He was preceded in death by a 
sister, Mary Sue Pugh.
      Survivors include his parents and one daughter, Rachel McCormick 
of Colorado Springs, Colo.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday at the Jackson's Harrisburg 
Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Kausler officiating. Interment was 
in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.
      Pallbearers were Larry Paul Lyerly, Raymond Earl Lyerly, Mike 
Privett, Bobby Weeks, Pat Turnage and Randy Mills. Honorary pallbearers

      Glorisdean Gladys Dowd, 74 of Newport, died March 4, 2002 in 
Newport. She was a member of the Calhoun Church of God in Christ, an all 
around faith member until her death, and an active member in various 
community youth programs.
      Survivors include one brother, Troy Porter of Providence, R.I.
      Funeral service was 1 p.m. Thursday at Calhoun Church of God in 
Christ with Bro. Fred Williams officiating. Interment was in Lone Beech 
Cemetery in Olyphant.

FRANK REED

      Mr. Frank Reed, a lifelong resident of the Bay Village Community 
near Cherry Valley, died Monday, March 4, 2002 in Jonesboro. He was 92 
years of age and died following an extended illness.
      Funeral services were 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bay Village Assembly 
of God Church in Bay Village with Rev. Steven Mabry, pastor of the 
church, officiating. Interment was in Bay Village Cemetery.
      Mr. Reed was born Aug. 25, 1909 in Marked Tree the son of the late 
George Walter and Elizabeth Amanda Darnell Reed. He attended school in 
Marked Tree as a young person and moved at an early age to the Valley 
View and Bay Village Communities where he resided for most of his life. 
On March 15, 1933 he marred the former Miss Inez Shaver, who survives. 
Mr. Reed was a self-employed farmer in Poinsett and Cross counties for 
over 20 yeras before retiring. He was a member of the Bay Village 
Assembly of God Church.
      In addition to his wife, survivors include one son, Bobby Frank 
Reed of Sikeston, Mo.; two daughters, Jean Jones of Newport and Joan 
Clover of Harrisburg; one brother, Joe Reed of South Bend, Ind.; two 
sisters, Sarah Deckleman of St. Charles, Mo. and Emma Autio of Daytona 
Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
      The family requested that memorials be made to the Bay Village 
Cemetery Fund.

GORDON L. VANPELT

      Gordon L. VanPelt, 86 of McCrory, died March 4, 2002 in a Woodruff 
County Nursing Home where he had been a patient for three months.
      He was born in Howell on Sept. 2, 1915 the son of the late Isaac 
and Nevada Spencer VanPelt. He attended Howell-Wiville schools and was 
married on July 7, 1937 to the former Dorris Chappel, who survives. He 
was a retired farmer and member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He 
loved hunting, gardening, traveling, family and church.
      Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gordon Lynn VanPelt of 
Apache Junction, Ariz. and Gary Wayne VanPelt of Benton; three sisters, 
Dorothy Marsh and Grace Carroll of McCrory, and Alma Shadel of El Paso; 
six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
      Funeral service was 10 a.m. Thursday at Thompson-Wilson Funeral 
Home in McCrory with Rev. Pete Ogle of Searcy officiating. Interment was 
in Woodman Cemetery.

      She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Springdale.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Collins in 1987.
      Mrs. Collins is survived by her son, Stephen P. Collins of 
Springdale; two daughters, Glenn Gay of Springdale and Beth Chambers of 
Springdale; one brother, T.S. Stephens of Newport; five grandchildren 
and five great-grandchildren.

      Mrs. Vonda Louise Freese, 74 of Jonesboro, formerly of Hickory 
Ridge, died Monday, March 11, 2002 in Jonesboro. She was born in 
Pennington on May 15, 1927 the daughter of M.A. and Annice (Skinner) 
Pruett. Mrs. Freese was a homemaker and a member of the Liberty Baptist 
Church in Hickory Ridge.
      She is preceded in death by her husband, Clarence G. Freese.
      Mrs. Freese is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Ann Davis of 
Jonesboro; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

and gin operator, and a member of the Church of Christ.

Jerry Honey of Harrison; two daughters, Lula Rash and Betty Berryhill,

      Mr. Loyd E. Hulett, 79 of Swifton, died Monday, March 11, 2002 in 
Newport. He was born in Strawberry on Sept. 22, 1922 the son of William 
Otho, Sr. and Donna Blonde (Lloyd) Hulett.
      Mr. Hulett was a retired farmer and businessman. He was a member 
of the Swifton Church of Christ and a World War II Army Air Corps 
veteran.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; William Otho Hulett, Sr. 
on Feb. 26, 1985 and Donna Blonde (Lloyd) Hulett on Feb. 28, 1981; three 
brothers, W.O. Hulett, Lester Hulett and Billy Hulett.
      Mr. Hulett is survived by his wife, Ruth (Marlett) Hulett of 
Swifton; one son, Jimmy N. Hulett and wife Teresa of Mountain Home; one 
step-son, David Street and wife Nancy of St. Louis, Mo.; one daughter, 
Brenda (Hulett) Davis and husband Jim of Beebe; one step-daughter, 
Willene Neely and husband Eldon of Jonesboro; three brothers, C.C.

      Cora Evelyn Robinson, 71 of Bald Knob, died March 9, 2002 in Bald 
Knob. She was born July 20, 1930 in Beedeville the daughter of the late 
Jeff and Idella Mae Burkhead Burnett. She attended Beedeville schools, 
was a member of the Church of Christ and loved family (especially her 
grandkids), flowers and home.
      Survivors include her husband, Joel Robinson, Sr. of the home; one 
son, Joel Robinson, Jr. of Bald Knob; three daughters, Vickie Holmes of 
Chaparrella, N.M., Theresa Chamblee of Dumas, Texas and Janette Curtis 
of Monticello; three brothers, eight grandchildren and 13 great-
grandchildren.

HERSHEL A. ROBINSON

      Mr. Hershel A. Robinson, 72 of Lowell, Ind., formerly of Arkansas, 
died Wednesday, March 6, 2002 in Lowell. He was born on April 23, 1929 
in Clarenden the son of Melvin and Bernice O. (Pfifer) Robinson.
      Mr. Robinson was a retired pipe fitter from the Gary School Corp. 
Local #597 and was a member of the Lowell Colfax Lodge and of the 
Scottish Rite. Mr. Robinson was a pianist for many gospel groups and his 
church. He loved life and the Lord Jesus Christ.
      He was preceded in death by one daughter, Rose Marie; and his 
parents.
      Survivors include his wife, Julia P. (Whitlock) Robinson of 
Lowell, Ind.; one son, Arland Robinson and wife Wanda of Hammond, Ind.; 
one daughter, Nita Neff and husband Don of Cedar Lake, Ind.; two 
sisters, Francis Jiles and husband Randolph of Newport, and Juanita 
Lawrence and husband George of Greers Ferry; 13 grandchildren; two 
great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

      William Edward Taylor, age 84 of Patterson near McCrory, died 
March 9, 2002 in Searcy.
      He was born in Salado on Feb. 7, 1918 the son of the late Bertha 
Zules Taylor and Richard Taylor. He married the former Kathleen Bull on 
Sept. 14, 1940, who survives. Mr. Taylor was a member of the DeView 
Methodist Church, was a retired farmer and loved farming, gardening, 
hunting, fishing, family and friends.
      Survivors include his wife; three sons, Jerry Taylor of Ivanhoe, 
Texas, Dwight Taylor of Patterson and Denny Taylor of Vandale; one 
daughter, Brenda Lawson of Splendor, Texas; seven grandchildren and 13

      Mr. Ishmeal Ball, 64 of Thida, died Wednesday, March 13, 2002 in 
Newport. He was born Jan. 2, 1938 in Charlotte the son of Joe Franklin 
and Gladys Rachel (Crook) Ball. He married Miss Linda Jo Ann Bridgeman 
on May 27, 1960.
      Mr. Ball retired in 1991 from with the Melton Construction Company 
at Batesville. He was a member of the Meadow Lake Missionary Baptist 
Church in Oil Trough, and he enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening.
      He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Author 
Ball and R. D. Ball.
      Mr. Ball is survived by his wife of 41 years, Linda Jo Ann 
(Bridgeman) Ball of Thida; two sons, Chris Ball and wife Patty of Maple 
Springs, and Bruce Ball and wife Tracy of Amagon; three daughters, Sandy

      Mr. Harold Dene Grady, 76 of Newellton, La. died Wednesday, March 
13, 2002 in Monroe, La. He was born July 23, 1925 in Beedeville.
      He was a retired farmer and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War 
II. He served aboard the minesweeper, U.S.S. Specter in the Pacific 
Ocean.
      Mr. Grady was preceded in death by his wife, Louise (Smith) Grady 
on Aug. 22, 1990, and one brother, Maurice Grady on May 30, 1998.
      He is survived by three sons, Harold "Whoop" Grady of Tallulah, 
La., Henry Grady of Tallulah, La. and Robert Grady of Columbia, La.; 
four daughters, Brenda (Grady) Lovelady of Hebert, La., Barbara (Grady) 
Monnin of Winnsboro, La., Donna (Grady) Martin of Forrest City, N.C. and

      Mrs. Mary Dennis Greer died March 12, 2002 in a local hospital. 
She was a member of First Baptist Church and was a retired factory 
worker in Elgin, Ill.
      She is survived by four sisters, Lennie Mae Jones of Little Rock, 
Dollie Mae Griffin of Newport, Verline Anderson of Illinois and Annie 
Mae Clark of Patterson.
      Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church with Rev. T. 
W. Barnes officiating. Burial is in Newhope Cemetery in Tuckerman.

MICKEY MCKEE

      Mr. Mickey McKee, resident of Cabot and former resident of the 
Woodruff County area, died Sunday, March 10, 2002 in Jacksonville. He 
was 72 years of age and died following an extended illness.
      Thompson-Wilson Funeral Homes of McCrory and Wynne were in charge 
of private family services.
      Mr. McKee was born Feb. 24, 1930 in Shreveport, La., the son of 
the late Rufus and Janet Shoemaker McKee. He was a graduate of Newport 
High School and furthered his education at Arkansas Technical College in 
Russellville. Mr. McKee was a retired production manager from both 
Revere of Newport and Southern Coating and Nameplate of Sherwood. He was 
a motorcycle enthusiast and belonged to the Arkansas Bikers, Motorcycle 
Freedom and Arkansas Motorcycle Association. He and his wife of 26 
years, Peggy Brown McKee, traveled from coast to coast together on his 
Goldwing with a sidecar. Animals, especially dogs, were among his other 
loves.
      Mr. McKee is survived by his wife; one daughter, Laurie Coe and 
husband Shane of Newport; and his parents-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. L.A. 
Pulley of McCrory.
      The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the 
Jackson County or Pulaski County Humane Society.


RONNIE DEAN SEXTON I

      Ronnie Dean Sexton I, 53 of Newport, died March 12 at his home. He 
was a dispatcher for Howard Trucking and a Baptist. 
      Mr. Sexton was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Benjamin 
Sexton.
      Survivors include his son, Ronnie D. Sexton II of Vilonia; step-
son, Neal Sutter of Little Rock; one daughter, Camille Sexton of Little 
Rock; mother, Irene Whitlow of Tuckerman; two brothers, Jim Sexton and

CHARLES SMITH DICKERSON

      Mr. Charles Smith Dickerson, 89 of McCrory, died Thursday, March 
14, 2002 in Searcy. He was born in Ripley, Miss. and moved to McCrory in 
1951. He was married to the former Dorothy Warmath, who preceded him in 
death in June of 2000.
      He was a retired Federal Compress and Warehouse manager, a 
Baptist, a Mason, Rotarian, avid Bible reader, very religious, and he 
loved his family church and country music.
      Survivors include one daughter, Laura Nell Chaifetz of Miami, 
Fla.; two sisters, Rose Roberts of Pontiac, Miss. and Evangeline Carter 
of Ripley, Tenn.; one brother, Robert Dickerson of Ripley, Miss.; four 
grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

PAUL GANN 

      Mr. Paul Gann, age 86 of Flint, Mich., formerly of Harrisburg, 
died Sunday, March 17, 2002 in Flint.
      He was born Jan. 29, 1916 at Lepanto, the son of Monroe Gann and 
Elizabeth (Nichols) Gann. He was a retired automobile factory worker and 
a Veteran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 
wife, Joyce (Toney) Gann and a daughter, Linda Gann Torres.
      He is survived by one brother, Silas Gann; five sons, Charles 
Gann, Larry Gann, Jerry Gann, Gary Gann and Jack Gann; one daughter, 
Ruth Ann Gann; 14 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
      Visitation will be at Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral Home Wednesday 
from 1-9 p.m.
      Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Jackson's 
Harrisburg Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Harrisburg Memorial 
Park Cemetery.

WILEY E. 'GENE' GRANT

      Mr. Wiley E. "Gene" Grant, 67 of Jonesboro, formerly of 
Harrisburg, died Saturday in Jonesboro. He was born Oct. 19, 1934 in 
Whitehall the son of Wiley Grant and Mallie O. (Greenwood) Grant. He was 
a retired iron worker for Iron Workers #10 of Kansas City, Mo. and of 
the Baptist faith.
      Survivors include one sister, Neva Wessner of Harrisburg; one 
brother, Ira M. Grant of Jonesboro; two sons, Larry Grant of 
Warrensburg, Mo. and Jeff Grant of Centerview, Mo.; one daughter, Brenda 
Shippy of Centerview, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Austin Grant, Ryan 
Shippy, Renea Shippy, Calee Grant, Cody Grant, Tyler Grant and Hunter 
Grant.
      Funeral service was 2:30 p.m. at the Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral 
Home with Rev. Jerry Kausler officiating. Interment followed in 
Jonesboro Memorial Park Cemetery.

MARGIE SUE KINCAID

      Mrs. Margie Sue Kincaid, 63 of Oil Trough, died Thursday in 
Newport. She was born in Caraway and lived much of her life in Pontiac, 
Mich. before moving to Newport and Tuckerman, and then to Oil Trough 
last year. She was a homemaker and a member of the United Faith General 
Baptist Church in Pontiac, Mich.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Kincaid; two 
sons, Gary Kincaid and Phillip Kincaid; her parents; and several 
brothers and sisters.
      Survivors include two daughters, Debra Sparkman of Concord and 
Sheila Harshman of Oil Trough; one son, Marshall Terry Kincaid of 
Pontiac, Mich.; one sister, June Foster of Tuckerman; two brothers, 
Alvie Price of Jonesboro and Billy Price of Calico Rock; 17 
grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Sunday at Emerson Memorial Chapel in 
Jonesboro with a private burial.

      Thurma Mae Marlar, 76 of Park Hills, Mo., died Friday, March 8, 
2002 at her residence. She was born Dec. 28, 1925 in Newport.
      She was preceded in death by her parents, Reuben and Corena Balch 
Compton; two brothers, David and Elbert Compton; and two sisters, Alice 
Koettel and Voneva Howard.
      Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Rev. James Marlar of 
Park Hills, Mo.; one son, Tim and wife Cindy Marlar of San Antonio, 
Texas; three daughters, Pat, Mrs. Larry McDonald of San Antonio, Texas, 
Debra Kay, Mrs. John Curlin of Terre Du Lac, Mo., Robin, Mrs. Ed Sutton 
of Park Hills, Mo.; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two 
sisters, Lena Stacy of Newport, Euna Faye Knight of Fitzhugh; several 
nieces and nephews, several other relatives and a host of friends 
survive.

PAUL RAZER

      Mr. Paul Razer, 84 of Bradford, died Saturday, March 16, 2002 in 
Little Rock. He was born in Bradford on June 13, 1917 the son of Harvey 
and Fannie (Wilkinson) Razer.
      Mr. Razer was retired from Dixie Lumber Company, Brown Jordan and 
farming. He was a member of the Oakland Free Will Baptist Church. Mr. 
Razer was a World War II U.S. Army veteran and a member of the Neil-
Griffin Post #47 American Legion of Newport.
      He was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Wayne Razer, and four 
brothers, Marvin Razer, Lyndell Razer, Charles Razer and Elmer Razer.
      Mr. Razer is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances Ruth 
(Sturch) Razer of Bradford; one son, Bruce Razer and wife Ann of Cabot; 
two daughters, Marsha Hamm and husband Tim of Conway and Ann Carrell and 
husband Randall of Fayetteville; six grandchildren, Susan (Hamm) Lehman 
and husband David of Oklahoma City, Okla., Franklin Hamm of Conway, 
Justin Carrell and wife Bonny of Fort Worth, Texas, Jeremy Carrell of 
Fayetteville, Michael Razer of Cabot and Kathy Razer of Cabot.

JAMES HENRY SMITH

      James Henry Smith, 85 of Grubbs, died March 14, 2002 in 
Southhaven, Miss. He was retired from Victor Metal and a member of 
Grubbs Missionary Baptist Church.
      Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents, James and Lula 
Callahan Long; and one son, James Warren Smith.
      Survivors include his wife, Gladys Williams Smith of Grubbs; one

J. L. WOODRUFF

      Mr. J. L. Woodruff, 76 of Grubbs, died Thursday, March 14, 2002 in 
Jonesboro. He was born June 27, 1925 in Grubbs the son of Joe and Lillie 
(Springer) Woodruff. He married Miss Mattie Belle Victory on May 23, 
1946.
      He was a retired farmer and a member of the Ballews Chapel Baptist 
Church. Mr. Woodruff was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a 
paratrooper, fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and jumped the Rhine 
River. He was decorated with a Purple Heart and three Bronze Stars.
      Mr. Woodruff was a former volunteer Veteran's Service Officer and 
a long time Boy Scout Leader. He learned to clog at the age of 55 and 
performed several years at the Ozark Folk Center.
      He was preceded in death by three brothers, Sidney Woodruff, Bobby 
Woodruff and Jimmy Woodruff; and one sister, Helen Weir.
      Mr. Woodruff is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mattie Belle 
(Victory) Woodruff of Grubbs; one son, Arlon L. Woodruff of Lake City; 
one daughter, Teresa Woodruff of Jonesboro; one brother, Waymon Woodruff 
of Bartlett, Tenn.; two sisters, Delca Blanks of Batesville and Mabel 
Blagg of Flushing, Mich.; four grandchildren, Geoffrey Woodruff of Lake 
City, Jade House of Memphis, Tenn., Jennifer Weaver of Lake City and 
Shannon House of Jonesboro; and two great-grandchildren, Allysa Weaver 
and Hallie McNeill.
      Funeral service was 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Ballews Chapel 
Baptist Church with Bro. Hoover Lewis and Bro. Ronnie Blanks 
officiating. Interment was in Ballews Chapel Cemetery.

MRS. ROGER ANICE BEMBER

      Mrs. Roger Anice Bember, 77 of Newport, died March 18, 2002 in 
Jonesboro. She was of the Baptist faith, a Sunday school teacher, 
president of the mather board, mission worker and faithful church 
member.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, B. M. Bember, and one 
daughter, Joann Bember Wilson.
      Survivors include three sisters, Addie L. Boyce of Malden, Mo., 
Jessie Mae Williams of Tuckerman and Rosey Jones of Venice, Calif.; two 
brothers, Casey Jones of Muskogee, Okla. and Willie Jones of Couert, 
Mich.; three grandchildren, Victor, Deirdra and Michella; and four 
great-grandchildren.

MARIE WYATT EVANS

      Mrs. Marie Wyatt Evans, 86 of Newport, died Tuesday, March 19, 
2002 in Searcy. She was born March 19, 1916 in Rosie the daughter of Loy 
Adolph and Eula (Morgan) Wyatt.
      Mrs. Evans graduated from Arkansas State College with a BSE and 
was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma. She was a teacher for 23 years, 
having taught at both Albright and Castleberry Elementary Schools. Mrs. 
Evans was a member of the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association. She had 
been a member of the First Baptist Church since 1947 and taught Sunday 
School for 48 years. Mrs. Evans was a member and past president of the 
Women's Missionary Union. She loved to study the Bible.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Landon Brice Evans on 
Nov. 22, 1974.
      Mrs. Evans is survived by one son, Landon Brice Evans, Jr. and 
wife Martha of Edmond, Okla.; one daughter, Cynthia Young and husband 
Dr. Jack Young of Searcy; one sister, Ethel Holmes of Batesville; three 
grandchildren, Dr. Hunter Young and wife Chris, Paige Young and wife 
Krissi, Susan Bessey and husband Drew; eight great-grandchildren, 
Brennan Young, Morgan Young, Kuenzi Young, Wyatt Young, Raley Young, 
Austin Ross, Emery Young and Grayson Young.

DONNY MAX FERGUSON

      Mr. Donny Max Ferguson, 58 of Beedeville, died Tuesday, March 19, 
2002 at his residence. He was born Aug. 4, 1943 in Beedeville the son of 
the late Ray Emmitt and Audrey Nance Ferguson. He graduated from 
Beedeville School, served in the Air Force four years, loved old John 
Wayne and World War II, was an avid sportsman, loved good music, 
traveling, hunting, flying and family.
      Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, 
Emmitt Lynn Ferguson.
      Survivors include his wife, Sharon Kaye Ferguson of the home; 
daughter, Amy Lynn Ferguson Horton of Bono; and his sister, Fonda 
Ferguson Milligan of Trenton, Tenn.

      Mrs. Velva May Henshaw, 83 of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of 
Harrisburg, died Wednesday in Memphis. She was born April 22, 1918 in 
Lonoke the daughter of Andrew Scott and Effie May (Lamons) Scott. She 
was a homemaker and a member of the Bethel Baptist Church near 
Harrisburg.
      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her 
husband, Jessie Glen Henshaw; a son, Jim Henshaw; a daughter, Peggy 
Funk; and a brother, Joe Ramsey.
      Survivors include three sisters, Lois Byrd of North Little Rock, 
Thelma Williams of Wynne and Doris Scott of Little Rock; two brothers, 
Frank Ramsey of Chicago, Ill. and L.V. Ramsey of Ft. Smith; one son, 
Richard Henshaw of Memphis, Tenn.; seven grandchildren and many great-
grandchildren.
      Graveside services are 10 a.m. Saturday at the Farm Hill Cemetery 
near Harrisburg.

HERMAN LOGAN LANE

      Mr. Herman Logan Lane, 89 of Franklin, Tenn., formerly of Memphis, 
Tenn., died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 in Franklin. He was born March 31, 
1912 in Newark the son of William Logan and Mell Wood "Mellie" (Fetzer) 
Lane.
      Mr. Lane served in the U.S. Navy on the West Virginia at Pearl 
Harbor and then on the U.S. Salt Lake in World War II. He was a retired 
inventory manager for the U.S. Air Service-Civil Service at Robins Air 
Force Base in Warner Robins, Ga. Mr. Lane was a member of the 4th Avenue 
Church of Christ in Franklin, Tenn. and was a member of the D.A.V.
      He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Ruben 
Lane, Homer Lane and Kenneth Lane; and one sister, Lucy Lane.
      Mr. Lane is survived by his wife, Exia (Walker) Lane of Franklin, 
Tenn.; one son, Larry Logan Lane of Waxahachie, Texas; two daughters, 
Loria Kirkham of Danville, Ind. and Lisa Ellis of Franklin, Tenn.; six 
grandchildren, Jeanne Lane, Igor Lane and Sergei Lane, all of 
Waxahachie, Texas, Lane Kirkham and Jessica Kirkham, both of Danville,

      Mrs. Auvis Rhodes Langley, 79 of McCrory, died March 20, 2002 in 
Searcy. She was born July 27, 1922 in Hilleman. She was a member of 
Whitehall Methodist Church and attended Hilleman Schools. She married 
Mr. Cecil Langley on Dec. 16, 1929, retired from American Greeting Card 
Factory, and loved gardening, canning, quilting and family.
      Mrs. Langley is survived by her husband; three sons, Lawrence "Bo" 
Langley of Sherwood, Roscoe Langley of McCrory and Ronnie Langley of 
Fair Oaks; six daughters, Eloise Wright of McCrory, Sandra Skelton of

      Mrs. Estell (McGough) Bradley, 85 of Tuckerman, died Sunday, March 
24, 2002 in Jonesboro. She was born May 16, 1916 in Swifton.
      Mrs. Bradley was a homemaker and a member of the First Free Will 
Baptist Church in Tuckerman. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary 
and taught Sunday school for several years. 
      Mrs. Bradley was preceded in death by her husband, George N. 
Bradley on Sept. 5, 1991; and two sisters, Chestine Smith and O'Neal 
Sullins.
      She is survived by two sons, Bobby Bradley of Newport and Jerry 
Bradley of Tuckerman; one daughter, Betty Powell of Texarkana; two 
sisters, Georgean Johns of Tuckerman and Berty Lee Thompson of Des Arc; 
four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many close and loving 
friends of the church.
      Funeral service is 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Free Will 
Baptist Church in Tuckerman with Bro. David Winfrey officiating. 
Interment is in Gracelawn Cemetery.

EDNA L. HOLBROOK HOFFMAN DAVIS

      Mrs. Edna L. Holbrook Hoffman Davis of Little Rock, resident of 
Newport for over 50 years, died Thursday at Good Shepherd Nursing Home 
in Little Rock at age 90. She was a retired LPN for Harris Hospital in 
Newport.
      She was preceded in death by her parents, William Holbrook and 
Dora Skelton Holbrook; husbands, John A. Hoffman and R. A. Davis; and 
son, Bill Hoffman, all of Newport.
      She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Jim White 
of Little Rock; daughter-in-law, Velma Hoffman of Newport; two sisters, 
Grace Robertson of Forrest City and Rachel Baugh of Cabot; grandsons, 
James and wife Leslie White of Monticellok, and John and wife Rebecca 
White of Little Rock; three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Rachel and 
Mary Beth White; also several loving nieces and nephews.

CONSTANCE 'CONNIE' FORD

      Miss Constance "Connie" Ford, 84 of Newport, formerly of St. 
Louis, Mo., died Thursday, March 21, 2002 in Newport. She was born in 
Grubbs on Nov. 8, 1917 the daughter of William Amos and Ada Jane 
(Williams) Ford.
      She graduated from Harding College with a degree in French.
      Miss Ford was a retired librarian for the Union Electric Co. at 
St. Louis and was a member of the Holden Avenue Church of Christ. While 
living in St. Louis she was an active member of Central Church of Christ 
for over 40 years where she served as church librarian.
      During the years that Miss Ford lived in St. Louis, she was an 
active participant in community affairs and social and civic clubs. Miss 
Ford always wanted to know how she could help. Miss Ford was an 
accomplished pianist. She played for many weddings and parties. Her 
mother said she could play the piano at the age of three.
      She was preceded in death by her parents, William Amos Ford on 
Nov. 15, 1955, and Ada Jane (Williams) Ford on Oct. 26, 1970; one 
brother, Dr. Amos E. Ford; and two sisters, Jetta (Ford) Sink and Vietta 
(Ford) Gordon.
      Miss Ford is survived by four nephews, Ralph Ford Sink of Newport, 
Glenn Sink of St. Louis, Mo., John A. "Buddy" Sink of North Little Rock 
and Burton Ford of Newport; several great nieces and nephews and great-
great nieces and nephews.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Saturday at Jackson's Newport Funeral

BOBBIE JEAN (IRELAND) HAWKINS

      Mrs. Bobbie Jean (Ireland) Hawkins, 68 of Harrisburg, died 
Wednesday, March 20 at her home. She was born Jan. 5, 1934 in Beedeville 
the daughter of C.W. Ireland and Bernice (Thompson) Ireland. She was a 
homemaker and former owner/operator of The Hawk House Restaurant in 
Harrisburg. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
      In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two 
brothers, Buddy and Louis Ireland; and three sisters, Lidie Brown, 
Emogene Creed and Ethel Geneva Ireland.
      Survivors include her husband, Raymond Hawkins of the home; two 
sisters, Evelyn Densford of Dallas, Texas and Myrtle Ales of Memphis, 
Tenn.; one brother, Junior Ireland of Arlington, Texas; two sons, David 
Whitney of Black Oak and Kevin Hawkins of Brookland; two daughters, 
Debbie Wright of Harrisburg and Darlene Alexander of Harrisburg; eight 
grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
      Graveside service was 2 p.m. Saturday at the Harrisburg Memorial 
Park Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Kausler and Mr. Bob McDoniel officiating. 
Interment followed in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.
      Pallbearers were Mervin Bolden, Ricky Tate, Derek Versie, Johnny 
Riley, Gary Kifer and Donnie Crouch. Honorary pallbearers were L.D. 
Deckelman, Jack Clay, Martin Anderson, E.J. Wheelington and Glen Parks.

A. K. JOHNSON

      A. K. Johnson, 81 of Oil Trough, died Wednesday, March 20 in 
Batesville. He was an Army veteran of World War II who served in the 
250th Field Artillery. He was of the Baptist faith and retired from 
Brown Jordan after 27 years of service as a plant supervisor. 
      He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Retha Tordy 
Johnson, and one brother.
      Survivors include his wife, Joyce Tucker Johnson of Oil Trough; 
two daughters, Lorenda and husband Stephen Summers of St. Louis, Mo., 
and Cindy and Jerry Chastain of Oil Trough; four grandchildren, Amanda 
Tosh, Jennifer Summers, Kent Tosh and Christina Summers; one great-
grandchild, Ian Tosh; one brother, A.Z. Johnson of Oklahoma City; one 
sister, Faye Green of El Centre, Calif.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Friday at Oil Trough Methodist Church 
with burial in Maple Springs Cemetery. 
      Pallbearers were Sam L. Beasley, Chuck Beasley, Danny Barber, Jim 
Wyatt, Lance Wyatt and Dean Green. Honorary pallbearer was Spike Jones.

REBA NELDON

      Mrs. Reba Neldon, 82 of Newport, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 in 
Newport. She was born Aug. 15, 1919 in Melbourne the daughter of John 
Albert and Martha Ann (Sindon) Jones.
      In 1982, Mrs. Neldon began working as an Avon representative in 
Jackson County and was in the President's Club every year until her 
retirement. Mrs. Neldon was a member of the Sandhill Church of Christ.
      She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Lee Neldon on May 
6, 1981; two sons, Melvin Lee Neldon and Jimmy Dale Neldon; four 
brothers, Dallas Jones, A.B. Jones, Teddy Jones, and Clovis Jones; and 
two sisters, Emogene Thompson and Estelle Jones Conrad.
      Mrs. Neldon is survived by three grandsons, Melvin Paul Neldon of 
Auvergne, Jimmy Don Neldon of Augusta and Danny Paul Neldon of Tupelo; 
two great-grandsons, Logan Neldon and Conner Neldon; and several 
relatives and friends.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sandhill Church of Christ 
with Mr. J.L. May officiating. Interment was in Sandhill Cemetery in 
Auvergne. 
      Pallbearers were Larry Jones, Truman Runyon, Harold Clark, J.P. 
Runyon, Doyle Runyon and Bill Parks.

BUSTER BURL PRINE

      Mr. Buster Burl Prine, 90 of Newport, died Sunday, March 24, 2002 
in Newport. He was born May 30, 1911 in Swifton the son of James Henry 
and Virgie (Clark) Prine. Mr. Prine retired from produce marketing and 
was a member of the Faith Baptist Church.
      He was preceded in death by his first wife, Maudy Mae (Inman) 
Prine on Oct. 16, 1993; two brothers, A.A. Prine and Teddy Basil Prine; 
two sisters, Merle Spicer and Gladys Cleo Maples.
      Mr. Prine is survived by his wife, Emma Lois (Price) Prine of 
Newport; five sons, Hubert Prine of Seymour, Ind., Hersel Ray Prine of 
Whiteland, Ind., Jimmy Lee Prine of Newport, Burrell Dean Prine of 
Greenwood, Ind., and James Taylor Prine of Pangburn; one daughter, Rosa 
Lee; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Tuesday at Jackson's Newport Funeral 
Home Chapel with Bro. Billy Ed Morris officiating. Interment was in 
Coffeyville Cemetery in Possum Grape. 
      Pallbearers were Dennis Prine, Terry Prine, Randy Prine, Gordon 
Prine, Buster Prine, Steve Prine, Scott Prine, Johnny Prine, Greg Prine, 
Dewayne Prine and Brian Prine.

JAMES A. 'JIM' PECK

      Mr. James A. "Jim" Peck, 70 of Harrisburg, died Tuesday in 
Memphis, Tenn. He was born Jan. 18, 1932 in Harrisburg the son of Walter 
Lee Peck and Willie (Brown) Peck. He was a retired farmer and former 
owner of Peck Flying Service in Harrisburg. Mr. Peck was a U.S. Army 
veteran, having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the 
American Legion Post 14 and the V.F.W. He was a member of the First 
Baptist Church in Harrisburg.
      In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, 
Lucille Farris.
      Survivors include his spouse, Janell (Grubbs) Peck of the home; 
five sisters, Dottie Pannell, Mary Nell Pannell, Juanita Smith and Vera 
Vail, all of Harrisburg, and Era Jackson of Hot Springs; one brother, 
George Peck of Plain Dealing, La.; one son, Tony Peck of Harrisburg; and 
two grandchildren, Jamie and Whitney Peck.
      Funeral service is 2 p.m. Friday at Jackson's Harrisburg Funeral 
Home Chapel with Rev. Captain Lovell officiating. Interment will follow 
in Harrisburg Memorial Park Cemetery.
      Pallbearers are Doug Cravens, Donald Holt, Burt Grubbs, Jamie

BETTY ANN MURPHY ROLEY

      Mrs. Betty Ann Murphy Roley, 69 of Tuckerman, died March 22, 2002 
in Newport. She was a retired high school librarian for Tuckerman 
Schools. She was a member of the Tuckerman Church of Christ.
      Mrs. Roley was preceded in death by her parents, J. M. "Pat" 
Murphy and Blanche Gould Murphy; and her children's father, Eugene 
Roley.
      She is survived by Stephen Eugene Roley of Denver, Colo. and John 
Ramsey Roley of Arcata, Calif.; two daughters, Andrea Sue Carvey of 
Pasadena, Calif. and Julie Ann Roley of Mozambique, Africa; one sister, 
Billye Murphy of Colorado Springs, Co. and Tuckerman; and one 
grandchild, Lucas Allen Roley.
      Funeral service was 2 p.m. Thursday at Tuckerman Church of Christ 
with burial in Gracelawn Cemetery.
      Pallbearers were Rick Crawford, Jay Harvey, Shea Hembrey, Ricky 
Rowland, Arthur Swan and Blake Young. Honorary pallbearers were Eugene 
Dickey, Elwood Fisher, J. Q. Harvey, Dewey Henderson, Edward Pretty,

GLADYS WILLIAMS

      Mrs. Gladys Williams, 89 of Newport, died Sunday, March 24, 2002. 
She was a member of the Calhoun Street Church of Christ and was a 
domestic worker.
      She is survived by Columbus Robinson, Sr. of Newport, Elizabeth 
Sims and Robert Sims both of Illinois, Gladys Sims of Michigan, and 
Christopher Sims of Augusta.
      Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Calhoun Street Church 
of Christ with burial at New Hope Cemetery in Tuckerman. Visitation is 
Friday from 5-6 p.m.
