"GUM GROVE CEMETERY
Union Township, Jackson County, Arkansas"
inventoried by James Logan Morgan, December 1984

"This cemetery was established in the 1870s as a family cemetery for a white family. Shortly afterwards, it was sold to the City of Newport
and established as Newport Cemetery. The west part of this cemetery was converted to use as a black cemetery about 1900. The cemetery came to be known as Gum Grove. This inventory was prepared by James Logan
Morgan in December, 1984, with earlier and later partial listings."
