Directions: Take State Hwy 37 east out of Tuckerman. At the point
where Hwy 37 turns sharply to the south, continue straight east on
Jackson County Road #211 (dirt and gravel) for about 2 miles. JC# 211
deadends at the Craighead Co. line. At this point, turn left and
travel north on Craighead County Road #281 for just over a mile, past
the intersection with Craighead County Road #284. A short distance
past this intersection, turn left on an unmarked farm lane that goes
between two fields. You can mark the cemetery location from this point
as a small clump of trees, about 1/4 to 1/2 mile west and slightly
north of the lane. According to Rita Grigsby, the cemetery is about
1/2 to 1 acre in size.

Partial inventory and research completed 15 Aug 2004 by Rita Grigsby.

[Rita Grigsby visited the Denton Island Cemetery site on 15 Aug 2004.
I had been told that the cemetery was one of several in Jackson County
that, unfortunately, had been plowed over in recent years. As Rita
writes, however, "Someone has been doing some cleanup work there, and a
NICE memorial marker has been placed, with many of the names of people
who were supposed to be buried there." -- Mark Williamson]

The memorial marker placed at the cemetery has the heading:
"DINTON ISLAND CEMETERY - 1898", and, at the bottom, "REST IN PEACE".
The marker then lists the following people interred there, reading
from top to bottom, then left to right:

R. GIFFORD
K. GIFFORD
W. GIFFORD
BIRD baby
BOAZ baby
M. BOAZ
COX baby

M. DEVORE
DUNN children (2)
C. GOATCHER
J. HOBSON
C. LONDON
MORGAN baby
MYERS baby

A. TURNER
A. WINGO
B. WINGO
F. WINGO
WINGO baby (2)
M. WOODS (baby)
