Mr. M.L. Metcalf, of Daleville beat, has forty acres in one field of corn in
full tassel and silks, which if seasons continue, will average 20 bushels per
acre.

Transcriber's note: This is Marion LaFayette Metcalf, son of John W Metcalf &
Sarah Strand.  He was born 5-21-1843in Alabama. During the Civil War, he served
in the 57th Ala. Regiment.  Marion married Martha Jane Brackin on January 2,
1868 in Dale County, Ala.  They had eleven children. He died on July 3, 1927 and
is buried at the Hartford City Cemetery in Geneva County, Alabama.
