Chambers County News
Charlie B. Mason of Lanett was killed instantly last Saturday afternoon about 
5:30 o'clock when his motorcycle struck a cow on the LaFayette Highway. The 
impact hurled the 52-year-old man to the pavement, killing him instantly. Mack 
Hall, also of Lanett, was riding another motorcycle behind Mason and was an 
eyewitness to the accident. Mason was dead when he reached him, Hall said.
A native of Clay County, Mr. Mason had been a resident of Lanett for more than 
20 years. He had been an employee of Lanett Mill since 1919. Surviving are one 
son, J. J. Manson, Lanett; one daughter, Mrs. Robert Landreth, Huguley 
Community, two brothers, Obie Mason, Lanett, and Ocie Mason, Huguley; two 
sisters, Mrs. J. H. Colson, Mrs. Ines Dees both of, Huguley and his mother 
Beulah Mason also of the Huguley Community. Funeral services were held Sunday 
afternoon at 3 o'clock at the gravesite in the [McDaniel] Chapell cemetery Clay 
County with Johnson Blakely in charge of arrangements. The following friends 
served as Pallbearers: Mack Hall, Rance Gaylor, Charles Estes, Marvin Thompson, 
Frank McGuire, and Frank Hand.
