Ashland Progress
Many people of Clay County were made sorrowful when the news came to this county 
last week of the passing of T. L. Thompson, 69, of near LaFayette. He died at 
his home Jan. 5th. Funeral services were conducted from the church of his 
membership, Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church in Chambers County. Elder H. R. 
Avery officiated, assisted by Elder L.M. Parrish. Interment was in the nearby 
cemetery. Mr. Thompson was born on the Thompson estate which dates from 1822. 
The date of his birth was June 23, 1873. He was reared and died in the same home 
in which he was born. He was married to Miss Annie Roberts in March 1898. He 
brought his family to Clay County in 1901 and lived a resident and citizen in 
and near Ashland for 18 years. He obtained a Hope in Christ early in life and 
later joined Mt. Zion Church while he was living in this county. He lived a 
devoted Chris tian until death. He was faithful to his church. He was a kind and 
affectionate husband, a fond father, and a friend to all Deepest bereaved in 
sorrow are his wife, three sons, and three daughters. His sons are: R.L. 
Thompson, La Grange, Ga., T. L. Thompson, Atlanta, Ga., Sgt. Hoyt Thompson, Ft 
Benning, Ga., his daughters are Mrs. W. E. Pepper, Millerville, Mrs. Flora 
Mercier, Sandersville, Ga., Mrs. Thelma Slayden, San Louis Obispo Calif. Many 
other relatives and a host of friends bow their heads in a deep sense of sorrow 
for the passing of Uncle Bun Thompson. Submitted by his nephew B. B. Finley.
