                      Obit: William Cornelius Holstun

Obit from Chattahoochee Valley Times, Wed, Jan 30, 1924:
"DEATH OF W C HOLSTUN BRINGS DEEP SORROW"
Ins the death Monday of Mr William Cornelius Holstun, Lanett and this
entire section sustained a great loss, and sorrow and regret was
expressed in every face upon news of his going. He was forty one years
of age, and had lived in Lanett since he was sixteen, coming to this
city from the home place where he was born near Lafayette twenty-five
years ago. His death followed a long illness, during which he suffered
much but did not murmur. He was as patient in his great suffering as
he had always been in his dealings with his fellowmen, and all who
knew him loved and admired him for his gentle forbearance and kindness
of heart. For years he has been a sufferer and was not unaware that he
must answer the call early. However, he was never downhearted nor
discouraged but ever striving to serve his day and generation. He
joined the Methodist Church at Emory Chapel at the age of 12 years,
and was a consistent Christian with the purpose of the Master always
before him. He was a leader also in the benevolent and charitable
fraternal organizations of this community, and until his health failed
him took an active part in their work. He was affiliated with Lanett
   Camp No 886, W O W; Lanett Lodge No 43b, I O O F; Lanett Tribe I O R
M, Lanett Council of Pocahontas and Ivanhoe Lodge No 21, K of P.
Mr Holstun, through exercise of unusual ability, coupled with his
unfailing loyalty to the big concern in which he had been employed
since coming to Lanett, had risen to the position of head of the
finishing department of Lanett Bleachery & Dye Works and was known as
one of the best dye-house men in the business.
Deceased leaves, besides his wife, who was Miss Vicie Barron, two
sisters-Mrs Will Hairston, of LaGrange, GA and Mrs Perry Schuessler,
of Lafayett; and a brother-Mr John Holstun, of Lafayette.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan 29th at 2 PM at Lanett
Methodist Church, Rev Roy Hewlett having charge. A great many friends
and admirers of the deceased attended these last rites, the church
   being crowded with people.
The Lanett fraternal orders with which the deceased was affiliated,
were represented by large delegations properly attired.
The pallbearers were his brother stewards of the Methodist Church.
The Lanett Bleachery and Dye Works suspended operations during the
afternoon as a mark of respect for the deceased, and the business
houses of the city were closed during the hour of the funeral
   services.
The interment was at Pinewood Cemetery, West Point (GA), J J Hagedorn
& Co funeral directors in charge.
