George Wesley Smith
    George Wesley Smith, 90, a resident of Grand Prairie for twenty years and
formerly of Hickory Creek community, died in a rest home at Crosbyton Tuesday,
January 24, 1967.  He had been a resident there the past nine months.
    Funeral services were held at 2:30 PM Wednesday, January 25, 1967, at First
Baptist Church in Leonard.  Rev. Earnest Duncan, pastor of Fairview Baptist
Church in Grand Prairie, officiated, assisted by Rev. Ed Russell, pastor of the
Leonard church.  Burial was made in Leonard Cemetery under the direction of
Wilson Funeral Home.
    He was born January 5, 1877 in Millport, Alabama, son of W. W. Smith and
Sarah Beasley Smith.
    Mr. Smith married Miss Pearl Mayes in Leonard in 1920 and she preceded him
in death on March 31, 1966.  The family lived in the Hickory Creek community
before moving to Grand Prairie.  Mr. Smith was a retired farmer and a member of
the Fairview Baptist Church in Grand Prairie.
    Survivors are three sons, Cldye Smith of Roswell, New Mexico; Joe B. Smith
of Paramount, California; Robert Smith of Arlington; two daughters, Mrs. Mary
Waldrop and Mrs. Ardell Justus, both of Crosbyton; one brother, Jack Smith of
Columbus, Mississippi; one sister, Mrs. B. F. Thomas of Sommerville, Georgia;
six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
