WILLIAM SMITH.

A member of a pioneer Freedom township family and one of the township's
oldest citizens, was found dead in his bed at his home at Smith's
Corner yesterday morning at 1 o'clock. While his health was failing due
to advanced age, he was about until Monday when he complained of being
ill and his death was attributed to the infirmities of age and heart
disease. He was the son of Samuel and Mary (Helsel) Smith and was born
eighty-six years ago in the community where he resided all his life. He
followed farming all his life. He was united in marriage with Jennie
Shaw in 1870. She died fifteen years ago. Surviving are the following
children: Blanche Smith of Hollidaysburg, John Smith, David Smith and
Mrs. Edgar Shaw of East Freedom, Edgar Smith of Eldorado and Mrs. Daisy
Bowers of McKee. He was a member of the Mennonite church at Smiths
Corner, where funeral services will be conducted Sunday morning at 10
o'clock in charge of the pastor, Rev. Sylvan Lehman. Interment will be
made in the Pine Grove cemetery at Marionsville.
