SMITH

Joseph L. Smith, a native of New Orleans, resident of Covington for 26 years and 
a resident of Mobile, Ala., for the past four and a half years, died Sunday, 
July 18, 2010.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alexander and Josephine Wiltenmuth 
Smith; four sisters, Sophie S. (Felton) Duffey, Ruth S. (John) Grodzicki, Bertha 
H. Smith and Mabel S. (Junius) LeBoeuf; three brothers, Alexander A. (Mildred) 
Smith Jr., Gasper Philip (Esperance) Smith and George Louis (June) Smith; his 
first wife, Lillian Weiss Smith; son, Joseph L. Smith Jr.; second wife, Nina 
Coleman Smith; and stepdaughter, Patricia E. Stassi.

He is survived by one daughter, Beverly S. Waite; one granddaughter, Heidi W. 
(Darrell) Butler; two great-grandsons, Caleb Harrison and Nathan Sean Butler, 
all of Mobile; one stepdaughter, Pamela E. (Mike) Parsons of Coeur D'Alene, 
Idaho; six stepgrandchildren, Maria S. (Steven) Marget of Houston, Joseph G. 
(Ingrid) Stassi Jr. of Missouri City, Texas, Chris (Angelle) Stassi of River 
Ridge, Greg Heltman of Baghdad, Iraq, Cori (Jo-Jo) Jones-Mataban and Katyann 
Parsons, both of Coeur D'Alene; nine stepgreat-grandchildren, Justin Heltman, 
Jennifer, Michael John and Jordan Marget, Michael, Patrick and Christopher 
Stassi and Madison and Joseph Jones-Mataban.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 1 N. 
Marigold Drive, Covington, LA 70433.
