INFANTRY

RALEIGH, NORTH CAROLINA

STATE DEPARTMENT OF ARCHIVES AND HISTORY

1971

Company B, 2nd Battalion, NC Infantry Regiment

This company was organized in Surry County and enlisted at Dobson on August 10,

1861.  It was mustered into Confederate States service at Wilmington on January 31,

1862, as Company B of this battalion. After that date functioned as a part

of the battalion, and its history for the war period is reported

as a part of the battalion history.

The information contained in the following roster of the company was compiled

principally from company muster rolls which included the muster-in roll, dated January

31, 1862, and  muster rolls for March through June, 1862; October through December,

1862;  March-April, 1863;  and  September,  1863,  through February, 1865.  No

company muster rolls were found for the period prior to the date of muster-in, January

31, 1862;  for  February,  1862;  July through, 1862; January-February, 1863; May

through August, 1863; or for the period after February, 1865. In addition to the

company muster rolls, Roll of Honor records, receipt rolls, and hospital records,

supplemented by state pension applications, United Daughters  of  the Confederacy

records, and postwar rosters and histories, all provided useful  information.
