Henry WHITAKER Civil War Photo 10/12/1841-10/27/1926, aged 79y 15d
Henry was the first son of Abraham and Catherine Whitaker of Berks County. He married Annie Gangawore. Henry served in Company A of the 88th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry in the Civil War. He mustered in August of 1861. He was active in the service of the Union Army until Sharpsburg (Antietam). He was hurt at the battle and afterwards went home to his family. He later lived in Adamstown where he was listed in the directories as a mason. The Civil War picture was originally a tintype kept by his sister Hannah Whitaker Reazor.
