Longwood Cemetery The Longwood Cemetery has many Undeground Railroad Friends buried here. Some of the names you will find are Mendenhall, Barnard, Agnew, Cox, Darlington, Pennock, and more. These Friends opened their homes to provided shelter and food for many brave human beings that fleed oppression and slavery for freedom. The Longwood Progressive Meeting House was a station on the Underground Railroad, helping many slaves follow the North star to freedom. The Meeting House is on the National Register of Historic Places. |

MENDENHALL, Isaac d. 22 Dec 1882, Age 77 MENDENHALL, Dinah d. 22 Nov 1889, Age 82 Thomas Garrett and Rachel Mendenhall Garrett in Wilmington, Delaware would send many brave people seeking freedom from slavery to Isaac and Dinah Hannum Mendenhall home. Isaac, brother of Rachel, and Dinah were just over the line in Pennsylvania. Women and children would hide in a room under the springhouse, accessible by a trap door. Men were hidden behind a false wall in the barn.
