John Walter owned a large tract of land in Hampton Township. When he died, he was buried on his farm property. His grave is located beside the road near the corner of Wyland and Center Avenues. Originally, the graves of John and his wife Catherine were marked by tall stones, last recorded as being extant in ca. 1943, but disappeared at some point after that. The flat bronze stone below is believed to have been erected by the local American Legion veteran organization.
