Murrell House
|
This is a postcard sent to Luella McCarty from A.C. Curry / Riddles. (Card was enlarged to make it more readable). The photo is of a house that is the Murrell residence in Park Hill, OK (more below) Submitted to the Cherokee Archives by: Dale Zangare 4/26/2002 |
Subj: Cherokee Co. OK Bill: Just found this website. I had seen it sometime in the past but it was not as extensive. You are doing a good job. I'm the site director of the Murrell Home and I'm the one that ended up buying that photo of the house on e-bay. I had seen it before but did not have a copy for our archives. The information on the back of the post card is incorrect. The famous outlaw the writer is talking about is John Murrell who was a horse thief and did most of his work in Tenn. and Miss. To my knowledge, he was never in Oklahoma. George Murrell had "Hunter's Home" built about 1845 - he had married into the family of Chief John Ross back in Tenn. but his family was from Va.
