Grant's full name was Elias Grant Romine, his parrents were Daniel & Nancy Jane (Anderson) Romine. Grant's father served in the Civil War and died soon after returning home, leaving a wife and three small children. Grant and his siblings were placed in the Soldiers & Sailers Orphanage in Greene Co., Xenia, Ohio.
