Priest River Times Priest River, Idaho Submitted by: Kristy Taylor [muddypaw@onemain.com] Margaret P. (Mitchell) Douglas, 86 Margaret P. (Mitchell) Douglas, 86, passed away in Priest River on July 26, 2004. She was born in LaMar, Colo. on Oct. 24, 1917, to J.B. and Minnie (Martin) Mitchell. In 1935, the whole family moved to Nyssa, Ore., where she met her future husband, Norman S. Douglas. On Nov. 27, 1941, they married at Payette, Idaho. They lived and worked on the family farm in Nyssa, until moving in 1951 to Quincy, Wash, In 1957, they relocated to Priest River where her husband owned and operated Norman S. Douglas Logging. In 1966, they moved to Issaquah, Wash. and then to Renton in 1970. After the death of her husband in 1993, she returned to Priest River to be near her sons. She worked as a grocery clerk prior to moving to Priest River, where she clerked at Priest River Liquor Store, and helped her husband run the logging business. She even drove the pulp truck, when needed. Margaret was a good mom to her two sons. She loved horses, baseball, gardening, beadwork, and dancing, but most of all her family. Survivors include two sons, Gary (and Sharon) Douglas and Dean (and Katie) Douglas, all of Priest River; twelve grandchildren and their spouses, 22 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren; three siblings, Dollie "Dot" Matteson of Colorado, James "Henry" and Isaac "Ike" Mitchell, both of Nyssa, Ore.; and three sister-in-laws, Udie Sparks of Priest River, and Marge and Emily Mitchell, both of Nyssa. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by grandson Troy Douglas in 1997, and six siblings, Agnes "Babe", Hollis "Bud," Denzil "Dent", Phillip, Louis " Cook", and baby Ethel. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on July 30, at the Evergreen Cemetery in Priest River.
