Brown, of Bamberg, S.C., died the morning of July 6, 2001, at her residence. Mrs. Brown was born June 1, 1918, in Bamberg, S.C., the daughter of the late Bert Dean Carter and the late Sarah Elizabeth Roberts Carter. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Bamberg, S.C. She graduated in 1942 from Agnes Scott College, Decatur, Ga. She was a homemaker and a member of Apollo Music Club of Bamberg, the Charles Pinckney Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also an avid golfer at Paw Paw Country Club, Bamberg, S.C. She enjoyed playing bridge. Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at 11 a.m., in First Baptist Church in Bamberg, S.C. Burial in South End Cemetery with Rev. David Pohto officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, July 10, 2001, at COONER FUNERAL HOME, Bamberg, S.C. Survivors include, two daughters, Carla Brown Rhodes of Sykesville, Md., Elizabeth Brown Dear of Madison, Miss.; two sons-in-law, William J. Rhodes and S. Kent Dear; grandsons, Robert Winston Brown of Jackson, Miss., William Bryan Rhodes of Sykesville, Md.; one daughter-in-law, Barbara Butler Brown of Houston, Miss.; grandsons, Steven Kent Dear, Jr., of Lakeland, Fla., Lewis Clinton Dear of Jackson, Miss.; one sister, Berte Dean Howell of Fayetville, N.C.; one nephew, Alphonso Avery Howell, III, of Valdosta, Ga.; three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by hers on, Julius Winston Brown, Jr., of Houston, Miss. Memorials may be made to Apollo Music Club, P.O. Box, 445 Bamberg, S.C. 29003, in the name of Elizabeth Carter Scholarship Fund.
