TUBB Funeral service for Mrs. Alice Estelle Tubb of Little Rock, a former resident of West Helnea, was conducted Mon. morning at the West Helena Baptist Church. Rev. Lee Castle officiated. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park under direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Mrs. Tubb, 83, died Thurs. at the Rose Care Nursing Home in Little Rock. She was a homemaker, a native of Wheatley and a member of the West Helena Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Tommy Tubbs of Little Rock; four brothers, Harold McCorkle of Brinkley, Freddie McCorkle of Sand Springs, Oklahoma; Lloyd McCorkle of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Leonard McCorkle of Salina, Oklahoma; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Warren of Sand Springs, Okla., Mrs. Martha Hill of Garland , Texas; and Mrs. Donna Walker of Littleton, Colorado; two grandchildren and one great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Harvey Yates, Gene Cowsert, Cotton King, Gene Schieffler, Raleigh Whitsell, and Watson Light. ROBERT "JACKIE" HALL Funeral service for Robert Jackson "Jackie" Hall of Marvell was conducted Sun. afternoon at the Marvell Methodist Church. Burial was in Marvell cemetery under direction of Bob Neal and Sons-Brickell Funeral Home. Mr. Hall, 55, died Fri. at his home in Marvell. He was retired police officer for the Marvell Police Dept., a charter member of the Shallow Ford Hunting Club and a member of the Marvell Methodist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Hall of Marvell; a son, Robert Earl Hall of DeWitt; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Bloesch of Marvell and Mrs. Macklin Kelly of Tampa, Florida; a brother, Bill Hall of Little Rock; and a granddaughter. ROBERTSON SR. Graveside service for David Lee Robertson Sr. of West Helena was conducted Wed. morning at Sunset Memorial Park. The Rev. Lee Castle officiated. Arrangements were under the direction on Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Mr. Robertson, 80, died Mon. at Helena Regional Medical Center after suffering a massive stroke Mar. 1. He was a lifelong resident of Phillips Co., an Army veteran of WW II and was the owner of Robertson's Grocery in West Helena for 35 yrs. before retiring in 1982. He was a member of the West Helena Baptist Church, a founding member of Jake Lake Hunting Club, past president of the West Helena Business and Professional Men's Club, and a former member of the Lions Club. Survivors include his wife of 61 yrs., Dorothy Robertson; two sons, David Lee Robertson Jr. of Shreveport, LA. and Conner B. Robertson of Jacksonville, Ar.; two daughters, Mrs. Beth Rhodenizer and Mrs. Dot Flanagan, both of West Helena; three sisters, Mrs. Aileen Schaffhauser of West Helena; Mrs. Maxine Croston of Council Bluff, Iowa, and Mrs. Vera Shanks of Tempe, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Jake Lake Hunting Club. The family requests any memorials be made to the West Helena Baptist Church, the West Helena Library, or to the charity of the donor's choice. EDWARD 'EDDIE' ALLEN Funeral service for Edward "Eddie" Allen of West Helena was conducted Thurs. afternoon at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jerry Robbins and the Rev. J. E. Elliott officiated. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park. Mr. Allen, 70, died Sun. at the Ark. Childrens Hospital in Little Rock. He had been injured in an explosion several weeks ago. A native of Boyle, Miss., Mr. Allen was a long time resident of West Helena. He was an auxililary deputy sheriff for Phillips Co.; a veteran of WW II, an avid hunter and fisherman, and a doting father and grandfather. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Jeanette Allen of West Helena; five sons, Robert E. Allen and Jeff Livingston of West Helena, Larry Jay Allen of Fayetteville; Billy Ray Allen of Wicks and David Eugene Steele of Portland, oregon.; three daughters, Laura K. Lankford of Little Rock, and Mary Allen; a brother, Miles W. Allen Jr. of Hollywood, Calif.; two half-brothers, Cecil Henson of Calif. and Douglas Allen of Mo.; three sisters, Mrs. Vernie Coleman of Brinkley; Elizabeth Smith of Pine Bluff, and Mrs. Marie Felkins of Dover; and 11 grandchildren. Pallbearers were members of the Phillips Co. Auxiliary Sheriff's unit. Honorary pallbearers were Buddy Ray, Bubba Morris, Wilton Porterfield, Guy Harrison, Charles Taylor, and Jeremy Robbins. HELEN SHACKELFORD Funeral service for Mrs. Helen McNeely Shackelford of Marvell was conducted Thur. afternoon at Bob Neal and Sons-Brickell Funeral Home in Marvell. Brother Larry Rice officiated. Burial was in Marvell cemetery. Mrs. Shackelford, 64, died Tues. at Helena Regional Medical Center. She was a native of Hicks, a member of the County Line Missionary Baptist Church, and a retired postal clerk for the Marvell Post Office. Survivors include her husband, Gene Shackelford of Marvell; a son, Tommie Shackelford of Marvell; two daughters, Mrs. Debbie S. Hickman of Marvell and Lori A. Shackelford of Memphis; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers were Glen Wilson, Woodard Whitson, Steve Guest, Scott Short, Sidney Norwood, and James Cavette. Honorary pallbearers were men of the County Line Missionary Baptist Church. MRS. JUNE GAYLE HARAWAY Memorial service for Mrs. June Gayle Montgomery Haraway of Helena was conducted Fri. afternoon at First Methodist Church in Helena. The Rev. Wayne Jarvis officiated. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home was in charge. Mrs. Haraway, 64, died Wed. at her Helena home after an extended illness. She was a native of Helena, graduated from Central High School, and attended the Univ. of Ark. at Fayetteville, where she was a member of the Chi Omega fraternity. Active in community service, Mrs. Haraway was past president of the Helena Junior Auxiliary. At the First United Methodist Church in Helena, where she was a longtime member, she was past president of the Women's Socity of Christian Service, directed the chancel and handbell choirs, and was instrumental in creating the needlepoint kneelers at the chancel rail and the Chrismons used during Advent and Easter. Through the years, she was a dedicated member of the Ark. Chamber Singers and was a 10-yr. employee of Dillard's Dept. Stores. Survivors include her husband, Al Haraway Jr. of Helena; a son, Al Haraway III of Little Rock and Kim Haraway of houston, TX.; a brother, Vance Montgomery of Helena; a sister, Mrs. Blanche Moore of Little Rock; and two grandchildren. MRS. BLANCHE WOODS Funeral service for Mrs. Blanche Woods of Marvell will be conducted at 11 a.m. today (Sat.) at New Hope Baptist Church at Coffee Creek. Burial will be in Coffee Creek cemetery under direction of Bob Neal & Sons-Brickell Funeral Home. Mrs. Woods, 81, died Tues. at St. Vincent's Hospital in Little Rock. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and had worked many yrs. as a nurse's aide for Cedar Lodge nursing Home in Marvell. Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Berdie Crowder of Chicago and Mrs. Beverly Simes of Little Rock; a son, Arieus Woods Sr. of North Little Rock; three brothers, Fred Scaife of South Bend, Ind., Curtis Scaife of Kenosha, Wis., and Leroy Scaife of Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Ethel Sparks of Paducha, KY.; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ MARCH 15, 2000 PAGE 3 NANCY LOU BOYTE Graveside service for Nancy Lou Boyte of Helena was conducted Sat. afternoon at Maple Hill cemetery. Dr. Lee Castle, pastor of the West Helena Baptist Church, officiated. Arrangements were under direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Miss Boyte died Wed. of injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle on Hickory Hill Drive. She was a native of Little Rock. Survivors include a brother, Joe Boyte of Boulder, Colorado; a niece and a nephew. The family requests any memorials be made to the Order of the Eastern Star. WINSTON O. CARTER SR. Memorial service for Winston Owen Carter Sr. of helena was conducted Mon. morning at the First United Methodist Church. The Rev. Wayne Jarvis, the Rev. Paul Roberts, and the Rev. Duane Saba officiated. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery under direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Mr. Carter, 81, died Fri. at his home in Helena. He was a retired farmer, a native of Murfreesboro, a graduate of the First United Methodist Church, where he served as board member and finance committee member for over 40 yrs. A Army veteran of WW II, Carter served in the North African campaign and was a member of the 505 Regiment of the 8nd Airborne Division. He was a member of the Normandy invasion force but also fought in the Sicily, the Naples-Foggia, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe campaigns. Highly decorated, he received six Bronze Stars for bravery in action; the Purple Heart, the European-African-Middle ast Ribbon and Medal, the Presidential Unit Citation, and proudly worse the Combat Infantryman's badge. After returning home, he served as a member of the Phillips County Soil Conservation Board and was a board member of the Beaver Bayou Drainage District for 52 yrs. In addition, he served as a member of the Helena City Council for a number of yrs. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Marylene H. Carter of Helena; a son, Winston Owen Carter Jr. of Helena; a daughter, Mrs. Gayle Carter Roberts of McMinnville, Tenn.; a brother, Fletcher Carter of Radford, VA.; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Carter Conover of Gulf Breeze, Florida; and four grandchildren.
