Mrs. Knapp, 72, died Sun. at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis. She was a native of Birmingham, Ala. and a former resident of Elaine and Crawfordsville. She was a retired administrative assistant at Helena Regional Medical Center, and a member of the Second Baptist Church in West Helena. Survivors include a son, Richard A. She was a native of Marvell, a retired Central High School caferteria employee, and a member of the West Helena Baptist Church. FLOSSIE BOSTICK Funeral services for Mrs. Flossie Bostick of West Helena was conducted Monday afternoon at Calvary Baptist Church in Belmount, Mississippi. Rev. Ralph Culp officiated. Burial was in Joel Cemetery near Belmount. Mrs. Bostick, 83, died February 24, 1995, at Crestpark Skilled Nursing home in Helena. She was a retired factory worker and a native of Belmount, Mississippi. She was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church there. Survivors include her husband, Marvin E. Bostick of West Helena; a son, Billy Bostick of West Helena; a sister, Shelly Parker of West Helena; a brother, Kelly Brrant of Tennessee; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. *************** LESTER C. Mr. Moore, 76, died Feb. 23, 1995, at his home. He was owner of Moore Fur and Pecan Company, a lifelong resident of Phillips County, a member of the Elaine Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. Brother Lynn Lumkin officiated. Burial was in Cypert Cemetery near Marvell. Mrs. Scaife, 103, died February 23, 1995, at Helena Regional Medical Center. She was a homemaker and a member of Richmond Hill Church of Christ. Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Lucille Lumpkin of DeValls Bluff, and Mrs. Elizabeth Thorgmorton and Mrs. Louise Smith, both of West Helena; four sons, Gene Scaife of DeValls Bluff, Kenneth Scaife of Marvell, and Hal Scaife and Russell Scaife, both of West Helena. Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Westbrook, Charles Griesbeck, buddy Waddell, Fred Faust, Ralph Carey, Thompson Murray, Charles Harris, Allen Culp, Rudy Kummer, and Cotton Cushman. ***************** JOE HAROLD STOKES Funeral service for Joe Harold Stokes was conduced recently in Springfield, Oregon, where he had lived since the 1950’s. He was 69 years old. He was a native of Holly Grove, a saw operator in the timber industry, and was a member of Calvary Temple in Springfield. He worked for Coast Pacific Lumber Company and Weyerhauser Lumber Company in Coos Bay, Oregon and transferred to Springfield in 1961. He retired in 1989, He served in the Army during World War II and was with the 44th Armored Infantry Battalion on Omaha beach during the invasion of France. He was wounded there and received the Purple Heart. He was also a member of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Pioneersand served as an officer in the Communications Workers of America, Local 6504, for many years. FOOTE Funeral service for Willard Hoyte Foote of West Helena was conducted Friday afternoon, April 7, at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Charles Chapman officiated. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park under direction of Roller Citizens Funeral Home. Mr. Foote, 72, died Wednesday, April 6, 1995, at his home in West Helena. He was the retired owner of Foote’s Grocery, a native of Golden, Mississippi, and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Survivors include a son, Bill Foote of Burlison, Tennessee; three grandchildren, a step-granddaughter; and a great grandchild. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Phillips County Progress, Helena-West Helena, Arkansas Wednesday, May 31, 1995 Vol. II Page 1 Obituary Mrs. ALMA FAUST Buried Monday with picture (Mrs. Alma Ewart Faust) Graveside service for Mrs. Alma Ewart Faust of West Helena, along time resident and member of a pioneer family, was conducted at Maple Hill Cemetery Monday, May 29, 1995, afternoon. The Rev. Wilson Deese officiated. Arrangements were under direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Mrs. Faust died Saturday morning, May 27, 1995. at her home. The widow of Fred a. Faust, her parents were Allie and Thomas Ewart, early settlers of the West Helena area. She was a charter member of the West Helena Baptist Church and served the congregation as treasurer for more than 50 years. She also authored a history of the church. Mrs. Faust was a member of the first graduating class at Woodruff High School in 1916 and also wrote a history of Woodruff High School. Always interested in her community and in the things that went on around her, she was an active participant in civic affairs. She was for more than 60 years, a member of the Current topic Club and served as a member of the James Bate Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a former member of the Helena-West Helena Altrusa Club. In 1973, she was honored by the Phillips County Bar Association with the presentation to her of The “Liberty Bell” award. She was a retired vice president of First National Bank of Phillips County, being one of the first women in Arkansas to be named to such a high ranking bank post. She served as treasurer of the Twin Cities’ campaign to raise over $300,000 for the construction of the Arts Center on the campus of Phillips County Community College. Survivors include two sons, Fred and Thomas E. Faust of Helena; a daughter, Laura F.
