SOME WAR OF 1812 SOLDIERS WHO MOVED TO FRANKLIN CO. NY AFTER THE WAR

The following men were veterans of the War of 1812 before they moved to Franklin County, NY.  Some of them spent the entire rest of their lives in Franklin Co. while others were merely passing through.  The biographical information was gleaned from the pension applications of the soldiers themselves or their wives.  The pensions can be seen at the National Archives in Washington DC.

The serial numbers after each citation are the pension file numbers.  These men were found by searching the index of pension files and looking for references to Franklin Co.  Men whose last names start with letters early on in the alphabet have much more information in the pension abstracts.  As a result, it is quickly noticed that most of the men in this list have last names beginning with A through G or so. After the letter “G”, the abstracts are very sketchy and most do not indicate where the soldier lived.  There are probably many more pensioners who had connections with Franklin County who do not show up on this list.  Some of the pensions were unavailable during both research sessions at the National Archives in the summer of 2000 and 2001.  As a result, some citations only include what is in the pension index itself.  An idex to all wives and soldiers appears at the end.
