Palisade Cemetery is about 1 1/2 miles east of Palisade, just south of Hiway 6 maybe 1/4 mile. Can easily be seen from hiway.
The earliest written record we have of the Palisade Cemetery is a letter dated February 21, 1929, referring to certain financial records being audited, the date of which were February 14, 1914, to February 21, 1929. The first cemetery was east and south of Palisade on top of a hill. At some time, date unknown, it was moved to its present location east of Palisade. The books referred to in the letter had been with the firm of Young and Hunt from 1914 to 1927, at which time H.L. Hunt assumed charge of the books. On June 4, 1937, the Village of Palisade acquired the cemetery formerly owned by the Palisade Cemetery Association and appointed a board of six people with staggered terms of one, two, and three years. The first members were Mrs. Erma Egle, Mrs. Nora Hunt, Mrs. Dambach. Harry Moran was appointed sexton.
In 1947, the American Legion Post 318 applied for and received a deed for lots 1-18 in Section 18 to erect a monument to those veterans who gave their lives for our country. Special services are conducted each year on Memorial Day at this site. Names on the plaque are:
