February Term 19 Feb 1867 State of North Carolina Sampson County Superior Court Pharoah Hudson Administrator of Benajah Hudson against Edith, John, Annie, James, Robert, Kitsy wife of Tanner Hudson, Hosea, Sallie A. and Nancy A. Hudson heirs at law. Petition to sell Land for Assets to pay for Court cost and the claims of widow. 400 acres of the value of $1.00 per acre. Edith Hudson, age 27 Annie Hudson, age 25 James Hudson, age 24 Robert Hudson, age 23 Kitsy Hudson, age 22 Hosea Hudson, age 19 Benajah Hudson, age 17 Sallie A. Hudson, age 15 Nancy A. Hudson, age 14 Said lands subject however to the dower of Disey Hudson, the widow. Fall Term AD 1868 State of North Carolina Sampson County Superior Court To the worshipful, the Justices of said Court: The Petition of Dicey Hudson widow of Benajah Hudson respectfully showeth to your worships that her husband died intestate in the county of Sampson during the month of (blank) last past, leaving him surviving the following children who are his only heirs-at-law, to-wit: Edy, Annie, John, James, Robinson, Hosea, Benajah, Kitsy, Sally Ann, Nancy Ann, and Pharoah Hudson. Your petitioner further showeth that her said husband at the time of his death was seized of a tract of land situated in said county adjoining the lands of Loyd West, Crawford Wooten and Uriah West and others containing by estimation two hundred acres. Your petitioner further showeth that she desires to have her dower in the said land allotted to her and to that end she prays your Worships to order a writ to be issued by the Sheriff commanding him to summon twelve freeholders, connected with the parties neither by consanguinity or affinity and entirely disinterested to view the aforesaid tract of land and to allot and set apart to her one third part thereof including the dwelling house and all out houses, buildings and improvements appertaining the same for the term of her natural life and to report their proceedings in due form of law. May it please your Worships to order subpoenas with copies of this petition to be issued to the said heirs and children above named.
