How to use the forms and auto upload feature for USGenWeb Archives

In hopes of making things easier I will try to explain the forms and auto upload.

This information is for those who have their county set up for the auto upload and only for information submitted by using the forms page.

When someone submits information through the forms page at http://www.genrecords.org/mofiles/  a few things will happen.   First it will automatically create a text file and it will e-mail you with the text file as an attachment.  In the contents of the text file it will show you the file path where the text file has already been uploaded to the ftp site. So there is no need to upload anything to the ftp site.   If someone submits a photo it will also come as an attachment.  The photo will already be uploaded to the html site so you will not need to upload the photo either.

You need to add the information to your html page.

1. Save the text file to you hard drive.  DO NOT CHANGE THE FILE NAME.
2. While saving the file copy the file name to post to your html page.
3. Go to the text file and copy the file path to use for the link.
4. Copy the submittors name and add to the html page.
5. Copy the persons e-mail or registry url to use for the link to the person's name.
6. If there is a photo attachment use steps 2 and 3 for it also.

After you have added all the information to your html page all you have to do is save it and upload that.  The files have already been uploaded.

When information is submitted through the forms page the Archivist benefits in the following ways.
1. No need to create files.  It has been done for you.
2. No need to upload files.  It has been done for you.
3. No need to create file paths for the links.  It will be on the text file for you to copy.

This is an example of an actual file created using forms with the county on auto upload.  The file included a photo.
