Agnes M. Chapman
Agnes M. Chapman of Bourbon, Missouri, was born in the Delhi area, near
Cuba, Missouri, on October 12, 1904 to George and Margaret (Chapman) Stevens
and passed away Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the Sycamore Springs
Rehabilitation Center at Liberty, Indiana, at the age of 105 years,
5 months and 6 days.
As a youngster she was an exceptional student. During her eighth grade
years, her teacher recognized her potential and began prepping her for
Teacher’s College in Springfield, Missouri, At the age of 15, Agnes taught
at the Bailey School, near Delhi, Missouri, for two years. Her first class
was made up of 30 students.
On April 11, 1923 she was married to Floyd C. Chapman.
Agnes was baptized into the Antioch Christian Church while living in the
Argo area, then in 1932 she was baptized into the Seventh Day Adventist faith
in Bourbon, Missouri.
She enjoyed gardening and canning and helping on the family farm and was an
accomplished seamstress. She was fond of traveling and had visited 46 of the
50 states and was also a worldwide traveler. She became a receptionist for
Dr. Gordon Riffel from which she retired.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Virginia Stewart and Alberta Holt
and by two half brothers, Elmer and Claude Stevens.
She is survived by a daughter, Alyce Huff of Miamisburg, Ohio; two
grandchildren, Donald Huff and Cheryl Kennison; brother-in-law, Jack Holt;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held on Monday, February 22, 2010 from noon until time of
service at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bourbon, Missouri.
Funeral service was at 2 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2010 from the Seventh
Day Adventist Church, Bourbon, Missouri with Pastor John Wolfe officiating.
Interment was in the Delhi Cemetery, rural Cuba, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of Eaton Funeral Home, Sullivan, Missouri.
Maxine Fern Counts
Maxine Fern Counts of Steelville, Missouri was born June 9, 1919 in Licking,
Missouri to Otto and Lucy (Payne) Pewitt and passed away Saturday,
February 20, 2010 at Cuba Manor, Cuba, Missouri at the age of 90 years.
She married Garnell Brinkley and to this union three children were born. He
preceded her in death in 1971. Later she married Freeman Counts who preceded
her in death in 1980.
Maxine was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints of Ellington, Missouri and was a past member of the Eastern Star in
Ellington, Missouri. In her spare time, she loved to oil paint landscapes
in which her family will cherish her memory and her talent.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Lacy Pewitt; husbands,
Garnell and Freeman; one son, Gary Brinkley; and one grandson, Donald
Brinkley.
She is survived by her sons, Donald Brinkley and wife Barbara and Gene
Brinkley and wife Sandra all of Steelville, Missouri; daughter-in-law,
Donna Brinkley of St. Louis, Missouri; one brother, Bill Pewitt and wife
Wilma of Lonedell, Missouri; two sisters, Pat Phillips and husband Bob of
Springfield, Missouri and Delores Girard and husband Mel of St. Louis,
Missouri; nine grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; four great great
grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday,
February 24, 2010 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville,
Missouri.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at
the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, Missouri with Elder Miriam
Counts officiating. Special music of “He Touched Me” was sang and played by
Elder Miriam Counts. Other music played was “Amazing Grace.”
Committal prayer and burial were in the Hutchinson Cemetery in Licking,
Missouri.
Casketbearers were Steve Marshall, D.J. Ransom, Darren Brinkley, Don
Brinkley, Tom Brinkley and Tim Brinkley.
Arrangements under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of
Steelville, Missouri.
Mary Gregory
Mary “Short” Evelyn Gregory nee Luck of St. Louis, Missouri formerly of
Steelville, Missouri was born on Monday, January 10, 1916 in Crawford County
to Thomas Edward Luck and Mattie Ora Halbert Luck and passed away on Monday,
February 22, 2010 in St. Louis, Missouri at the age of 94 years, 1 month and
12 days.
Mary married Raney Gregory in 1937 and to this union six children were born.
Mary retired in 1978 from the B&C Machine Shop, St. Louis, Missouri as a
machinist, then moved to Steelville, Missouri.
Her hobbies were fishing, quilting, cooking, gardening, and watching the
Cardinal baseball team. Mary liked to visit and entertain visitors.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mattie Luck; husband,
Raney; sons, Clyde Ellis Gregory and Rainy “Red” Gregory; brothers, John,
Tom, and Clyde Luck; sisters Hazel Harman and Daphne (Domenic) Ramori;
brothers-in-law, Herschel Richardson and Sam Harman.
She is survived by her children, Bennie (Judy) Gregory of Calverton Park,
Missouri, Thomas (Janet) Gregory of Afton, Missouri, Gary (Virginia) Gregory
of High Ridge, Missouri and Betty Jo Vandergrifft of Glendale, Arizona;
sisters, Pearl “Jack” Woods of Steelville, Missouri, and Ada (John) Schwent
of Cuba, Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Cecil (Bertha)
Gregory of Manhattan, Kansas, and Jewel Luck of Steelville, Missouri;
16 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild;
other relatives and friends.
Visitation was Thursday, February 25, 2010 from 9 a.m. to noon and funeral
service at noon at Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville, Missouri with Father
James Finder officiating.
Burial was at the Gregory Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri.
Arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Steelville,
Missouri.
Kathy Darlene Jordan
Kathy Darlene (Williams) Jordan of Texas was born December 19, 1952 at
Steelville, Missouri to Clyde C. and Mae Rose Eaton Williams and passed
away Sunday, February 21, 2010 at Houston, Texas at the age of 57 years,
2 months and 2 days.
Kathy was united in marriage to Robert Dale Jordan and to this union one
daughter was born.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Mae Rose Williams;
brothers, Clyde Leroy Williams, Calvin Whittaker and Garry Williams and
sister, Doris Walton.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Dale Jordan; daughter, Tammy Lisa
Jordan McQurter and husband Lonnie Paul, Jr.; two grandsons, Lonnie Paul III
and Robert Earl McQurter, all of Texas; sisters, Shirley Mallison MacKenzie,
Joyce Carlsen Hart, Judy Head, Elaine Rowland, Jacqueline Iocca and Juanita
Farina; brothers, Ronald and Wayne Williams, Cleve, Leamon and Gene
Whittaker; other relatives and friends.
Visitation was held Tuesday, February 23, 2010 from 5-9 p.m. at the Klein
Funeral Home, Magnolia, Texas.
Funeral service was held 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the Klein
Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Dunn officiating.
Interment followed at the Klein Memorial Park, Magnolia, Texas.
James Stanley
James “Jim” Leonard Stanley of Cuba, Missouri was born in St. Louis, Missouri
on Wednesday, August 22, 1945 to Jake Stanley and Arline Zimmermann Stanley
and passed away on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at the age of 64 years.
James served his country honorably retiring from the United States Army on
May 21, 2003.
He married Lois Koch in Las Vegas, Nevada on December 12, 1987.
He was the owner of the Indian Hills utilities and also was recently a
part-time charter bus Holiday Tours driver. He was a member of St. Paul’s
Lutheran Church in Cuba, the Patriot Guard Riders and a life member of the
VFW. He was a licensed pilot and had his own plane several years ago. Jim
also enjoyed motorcycling.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake and Arline Stanley; brother,
Bill Stanley and sister, Claudine Fite.
He is survived by his wife, Lois; son Marc Stanley of San Antonio, Texas;
sister, Nancy (Jeffrey) Studt of O’Fallon, Missouri; brother-in-law, Don
(Linda) Koch of St. Peters, Missouri; two grandchildren; other relatives
and friends.
Visitation was Wednesday, March 3, 2010 from 10-11 a.m. at Hutson Funeral
Home, Cuba, Missouri.
Graveside service with full military honors at 2 p.m. at Jefferson
Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Missouri with Pastor Gerald
Wittmaier officiating.
Arrangements under the direction of Hutson Funeral Home, Cuba, Missouri.
