Vernon, Illinois, was born on Saturday, January 7, 1925 in Jefferson County to David Sherman Sr. and Altha (Dixon) Bullock and passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2011 at White Oak Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Mt. Vernon, Illinois at the age of 85 years. He married Esther R. Owens on August 4, 1947, in Benton, Illinois. Sherman was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II who served from April 1943 to March 1946. He later worked at General Radiator in Mt. Vernon, Illinois and was a police magistrate. He was also a member of Park Avenue Baptist Church in Mt. Vernon and Masonic Lodge 31 AF & AM. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lou Moore; seven brothers, Max, Jackie, Ralph, James Russell and William Robert Bullock and two infant brothers. He is survived by his wife, Esther; son, Gary L. Bullock and wife Debra of St. James, Missouri; two grandchildren, Anne Bullock Crousore and husband Josiah of Columbia, Missouri and Fred Bullock and wife Amanda of Owensville, Missouri; two brothers, Joe Frank Bullock of Woodlawn, Illinois and Jerry Bullock and wife Vickie of Mt. Vernon, Illinois; other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at the Hughey Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, Illinois with the Rev. Chuck Ellis officiating. Interment was at the Mt. Margaret Marie Cain Margaret Marie Cain of Bourbon, Missouri passed away Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the age of 81 years, 3 months and 13 days. Margie, as she was known by her family and friends, was a life-long resident of Sullivan, Missouri.  As a young woman, Margie helped her parents by assisting with the upbringing of her younger siblings. After her brothers and sisters became older, she worked with her mother at International Shoe Company, and then became a full-time homemaker after her marriage. On November 11, 1950, she was united in marriage to Vernon B. Cain and to this union, identical twin boys were born. Margie loved the Lord Jesus Christ and enjoyed listening to southern gospel music, reading, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She especially enjoyed caring for young children at her home, cooking for them, and providing a comforting ear when needed.  She taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School at Temple Baptist Church for many years and was a current member of New Testament Baptist Church. Margie will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Ruperta Beyreis; husband, Vernon in 1991; a son, Richard Cain; her brother, Bob Beyreis; nephew, Major Scott Hagerty; and brothers-in-law, Melvin Cain, Norman Cain and Kenneth Lechten. Gilbert “Dale” Carl Gilbert “Dale” Carl of St. Joseph, Missouri, formerly of Viburnum, Missouri was born September 11, 1937 in Viburnum, Missouri to Reldon and Bernice Payne Carl and passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the age of 73 years. On November 22, 1958, he was united in marriage to Patsy Moses and to this union three children were born. Dale worked for several years as a truck driver for Cardox Company and retired in 2000. He was an active member of the Frederick Blvd. Baptist Church in St. Joseph, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reldon and Bernice Carl and one brother, Charlie Carl. Carr of Chesterton, Indiana, was born August 20, 1948 in Anderson, Indiana to Robert and Leota (Carr) Land, and passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at the University of Chicago Hospital in Chicago, Illinois at the age of 62 years. Jon graduated from Chesterton High School in 1966.  He served in the US Army for three years, spending two of those years serving as a medic in Vietnam. Whenever there was a time of need in the family he was a dedicated caregiver.  Jon worked as a steelworker, starting at Bethlehem Steel in 1969 and retiring in May 2008.  He loved fishing, motorcycling, gardening and camping out west and was an avid Bears and Cubs fan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Leota Land; his brother, Jeff Land and sister, Pamela Land-Radtke. Justin Wayne Lutz Justin Wayne Lutz formerly of St. James, Missouri was born December 29, 1980 in Rolla, Missouri to Tim Lutz and Connie (Luebbert) Karnes and passed away December 28, 2010 in New Orleans, Louisiana, in a tragic warehouse fire. Justin was very artistic; he wrote beautiful poetry and was also very musical, he loved playing the guitar. He was somewhat of a loner, but when he was your friend he was a good friend; Justin loved animals, he was the one who always brought in the stray dogs and cats. Clinton Nolan Sr. Clinton Nolan Sr. of St. James, Missouri was born in Woodriver, Illinois on May 8, 1959 to Bill and Pat (Christian) Nolan and passed away January 11, 2011 at the age of 51 years. Clinton enjoyed fishing and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Pat (Christian) Nolan. Evelyn Rose Parry Evelyn Rose Parry, nee Bettros, was born Monday, January 31, 1921 in St. Louis, Missouri to Tony and Emma Bettros and passed away Saturday, January 1, 2011 in Cuba, Missouri at the age of 89 years, 11 months and one day. Evelyn was united in marriage to Leon “Pete” Parry on April 24, 1939 and together celebrated 34 years. Evelyn worked many years as a waitress at various restaurants.She accepted the Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tony and Emma Bettros; husband, Pete on November 24, 1973 and a sister, Diane Driskill. She is survived by her children, Mary Parry of St. Louis, Missouri, John and Mary Esther Parry of Steelville, Missouri, Jim and Kelly Parry of Satellite Beach, Florida, Sally and Mike Sheppard of Grove, Oklahoma and Anthony and Becky Parry of Steelville, Missouri; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The family choose cremation, and will have a memorial service in the spring. Modena Magnin Parton Modena Magnin Parton was born on June 19, 1928, the youngest of six daughters born to, A.M. (Otto) and Oma Dillon Magnin and passed away at her home on January 19, 2011 at the age of 82 years, 7 months. Modena was a life long member of the St. James Christian Church. She retired from California Manufacturing after many years as a seamstress.  She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, watching Survivor and Jeopardy. An expert trivia player, Modena was an asset to any team. Her favorite companion was her granddaughter Tara who was always her special helper. She is survived by three sons, Larry and wife Sharon of Clarksville, Tennessee, Randy and wife Toi of Choctaw, Oklahoma and Bruce and wife Deborah of St. James, Missouri; two daughters, Regina Thompson of Jefferson City, Missouri and Denise Abernathy of St. James, Missouri; seven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri.  Steve Barber conducted the service, which was held at noon at the Jones Funeral Home in St. James, Missouri. Shelley Lynn Reed Shelley Lynn (Payne) Reed was born on June 23, 1970 at Sullivan Hospital and passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 at her home in Sullivan, Missouri. Shelley graduated from Bourbon Schools in 1988. She began working at the Sullivan Hospital on July 29, 1988 as a candy striper. Shelley continued working at the hospital for 22 years. Shelley attended East Central College and earned an Associates Degree in Nursing. At a young age, her faith was strong and helped her to become a devoted mother and Christian. Shelley was an active member of First Baptist Church in Bourbon. She was committed to serving in any capacity that was needed: Vacation Bible School, Choir, GMAs, church camp and mission trips. She enjoyed the activities that Hannah and Teddi were involved in. She frequently worked the concession stand at the football games to help raise money for the band program. Shelley appreciated the beauty of the outdoors, took pleasure in the simple things such as feeding the ducks at the pond or a calming sunset from the beaches, and often could be found with camera in hand or at least in her purse. Shelley was able to make a recent trip to the ocean. A talent that Shelley kept hidden was her burger flipping ability, which she used to satisfy hungry eaters at the Crawford County Coon Club. She is survived by two daughters, Hannah Crowder and husband Elijah of Viburnum, Missouri and Teddi Reed of the home; parents, Gene and Jeanette Payne; four brothers, Buddy and wife Michelle, Donnie, Randy and wife Lorie and Danny and wife Jessi, all of Bourbon, Missouri; one grandson, Logan of Viburnum, Missouri; other relatives and friends. He loved the sounds of Donald Duck and anything to do with cars. Nicholas was very loving and always had a smile on his face. John James Sinclair John James Sinclair of St. James, Missouri was born in St. Louis, Missouri August 9, 1929 to John and Melba (Drews) Sinclair and passed away January 21, 2011 at the age of 81 years. John proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force from 1950-1954. John was united in marriage to Kathleen Kaemmerer on April 16, 1954 and to this union 12 children were born. John was a chiropractor, country club manager, construction worker, carpenter, and teacher. In his later years, he enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He loved spending time with family and friends and the time he spent volunteering for Hospice and was a faithful Catholic all his life. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen; his parents, John and Melba Sinclair; son, Gregory; daughter, Maureen Sorter; brother, Dave Sinclair and sister, Eileen Sinclair. Pearl Southard Pearl Southard of Rolla, Missouri was born on May 2, 1937 in Yancy Mills, Missouri to Frank and Jennie (Brown) Huskey and passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri at the age of 73 years. She was united in marriage to Claude (Bill) William Southard on March 14, 1956. Pearl was a devoted wife and mother. She focused her time and energy in providing for and sacrificing for her husband and children. Her house was always clean and food was always prepared with love. She enjoyed living in the country on the farm and was willing to help out on the farm whenever there was a need. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; Frank and Jennie Huskey; nine brothers and sisters; daughter-in-law, Anna Southard and son, Clyde Southard. Jesse Raymond Stogsdill Jesse Raymond Stogsdill was born on July 25, 1921, in rural Phelps County near Rolla, Missouri, to James Perry and Elizabeth Frances Boulware Stogsdill and passed away on January 19, 2011 at the Sanford Care Center in Vermillion, South Dakota at the age of 89 years. He graduated Rolla High School in May 1940. After high school he was employed by the KNWL Construction Company in the building of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He was later employed by Curtis-Wright Corporation of St. Louis, Missouri. He entered the United States Army on October 21, 1942, and served until February 6, 1946. He was stationed in various places in the United States and in the Pacific Theater during World War II. On March 30, 1946, he married Mary Blanche Simmons in Heber Springs, Arkansas. He graduated from Southwest Baptist College in Bolivar, Missouri, in 1948 and from Ouachita Baptist College, Arkadelphia, Arkansas, in 1950. He took a number of courses in seminary extension and did graduate work at Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford, Oklahoma. He was converted in 1945 while serving in the United States Army in Hawaii. He was baptized into membership in the Mount Olive Baptist Church, Phelps County Missouri Baptist Association by the chaplain of the base where he was serving. He pastored five churches in Arkansas from 1949 to 1955, served as Superintendent of Missions in Phelps County and Meramac Baptist Associations in Missouri from 1955-1957 and from 1957-1964, he pastored First Baptist Church, Cuba, Missouri. In 1964 he and his wife Mary were appointed home missionaries by the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board, serving as pastor of Indian Capital Baptist Mission in Anadarko, Oklahoma. He was General Missionary to Cherokees from 1970-1976. He retired from the Home Mission Board in December 1987. After retirement he was pastor of Keener Baptist Church, Hulbert, Oklahoma, and later was Director of Missions for Cherokee Association from 1989-1991. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elizabeth Stogsdill and two sisters, Leona (Bernard) Baldwin and Lorene (Earl) Spencer, both of Rolla, Missouri.
