The Island in Cloquet, Carlton Co., Minnesota (pictures of the flood sometime between 1948 and 1951)
I am sorry I cannot give the exact time frame of this flood. I was born in 1948 and I believe we moved from the Island when I was around 3 years old. I also believe that we were still living there when the flood came because my mother, Aune Marie (Maki) Mattson, told me about my father, Gust William Mattson, carrying me out on his shoulder. This is how I came up with the "sometime between 1948 and 1951". Maybe someone out there can help me with a more exact time frame.
Picture #4 is the Wood Conversion, which was right across the river from our house.
The building on the left in picture #7 is the house we lived in.
If you have any information on the actual date of this flood, please let me know. I am working on my family genealogy and would like to able to add the actual dates and maybe some newspaper articles.
