Mt. Paran Church, incorporated September 18, 1841, was called Solider's Delight prior
to 1841 and that congregation began circa 1766. The oldest legible tombstone is that of
Robert Gilchrist dated October 17, 1767. The oldest known deed mentions this area as the Plains of Paran,
used as a place of worship and burial by the society of Christians called Presbyterians, dated 4 May 1784.

On school days he transported his two daughters to the tollgate. From there, young Jessie, age 8, and Alice, age 6, would have to walk a half-mile down the even narrower McDonogh Lane to the one-room schoolhouse taught by Robert Breckinridge Chapman, their father's cousin. This was the first school in Randallstown. There is a memorial stained glass window above the Church door to him.
