In 1869, he operated a stagecoach from North Branch to Baltimore. On school days he transported his two daughters to the tollgate. From there, young Jessie, age 8, and Alice, age 6, would have to walk a half-mile down the even narrower McDonogh Lane to the one-room schoolhouse taught by Robert Breckinridge Chapman, their father's cousin. This was the first school in Randallstown. There is a memorial stained glass window above the Church door to him.
