Zion Hill (Tannehill) Cemetery
..
In the fiftys, I remember a white frame church. Since that time the church has been enlarged and bricked. The old cemetery is to the right in the photo. A new cemetery with one grave has been fenced to the left.
I am not sure when the Zion Hill Church or cemetery was started but near the middle of the of the cemetery was this stone that read: Some unknown Calvery soldier wounded in battle at Grand Ecore, LA. April 24, 1864 died in the zion Hill church and was buried in the Zion Hill Cemetery Apr. 25, 1864. Rev. Sam Dean officiated.
This is one of the larger cemeteries in the parish. The photos below were mostly taken at ramdom to show some of the stones, and to give a general feeling of the cemetery, which is beautifully kept up.

I noticed at least three ministers buried or mentioned in these photos: The current minister, Sam Dean during the Civil War and Joseph? Womack during the early part of the 1900s.
If anyone has more information concerning the church and or the cemetery, please contact me.
