Wilson Upshaw moved with the Barrons from Tallapoosa County Alabama to the Camp Creek Community south of Spearsville in February 1852. Wilson and Frances raised their family near Corney Bayou. He joined Company I, 31st Regiment Louisiana Infantry in the spring of 1863, serving with Frances' brothers at Vicksburg. He was a Primitive Baptist, and joined the New Hope Primitive Baptist Church at Spearsville in 1856. By the 1870s, he served the church as a deacon.
