Assuming that this was the entire Scarborough family, this picture was taken in 1902, between April 2 and July 23. This was between the death of Matthew & Janie's daughter Mattie Jane Scarborough (22 Sept 1881 – 2 Apr 1902) and the death of Clarenda Jane Ham Scarborough on July 23. Notice that Janie was wearing black, possibly in mourning for Mattie Jane. Mattie Jane had been fanning the smoke of a fire to drive the knats from cattle on April 1st. Her skirts caught fire, and she was severely burned. Her mother Janie Ham Scarborough was in bed suffering from tuberculosis, and she reportedly jumped up to help smother the flames and was severely burned herself (if so, the picture doesn' show it).
