The original photograph is owned by Wayne Barrett and is posted with his permission. Eudocia Holcombe Rockett (30 Oct 1809 – 23 Feb 1879) was the daughter of Rev. Hosea Holcombe and his wife, Cassandra Jackson. She married James Rockett (1792 – 1857) in 1831 when they lived in Jefferson County Alabama. They moved to Lafayette County Mississippi in 1841 along with their families, including Eudocia's sister Teresa Holcombe Hunt and her husband, Baptist preacher William Hunt . In about 1853, the Hunts moved to Spearsville, in Union Parish. Eudocia and James apparently planned to follow them, for they sold their farm in Lafayette County in 1856. However, James died on 22 October 1857 and was buried on their old farm near Water Valley.
Eudocia moved her younger children to Spearsville in the fall of 1858, traveling by ox cart. She bought a farm near Spearsville from her brother-in-law William Hunt. Eudocia's three sons Hosea Holcombe Rockett, Joseph Cannon Rockett , and Thomas Martin Rockett spent their lives in the Spearsville area, and all Rocketts from Union Parish descend from one of these three brothers. Eudocia was an active member of the Spearsville Baptist Church, along with her sister Teresa Holcombe Hunt and son Hosea Holcombe Rockett. Eudocia was buried was buried in the Spearsville Cemetery near the Hunts and her sons Hosea and Tom.
