I identify this as a picture of William Pierce Mabry based solely on my own memory of
going through old family pictures as a child with my grandmother. If she ever met him,
it was as a very young child, but she was the second wife of one of his sons.

The time frame is relatively easy to place, because it is a daguerreotype. The
photographic image is on a copper plate, which was used only for daguerreotypes.
Daguerreotypes were in popular use for a brief time. They became very popular in
Europe and the United States in the early 1840s. As each daguerreotype was a unique
positive image, it was quickly replaced by the more popular calotype, from which a
number of positive prints could be made from a negative image. A newer and better
process made both the daguerreotype and the calotype obsolete by the early 1850s.

William Pierce Mabry and Catherine Henry Cook were married in 1847, so since there is no
corresponding image of her, I'm guessing the photo was made between 1843 and 1847, which
would make him around 18 to 22 years old.
