Samuel Lorenzo Haile was born in Union County Arkansas, the son of Robert A. Haile of Essex County, Virginia and Orpha Ratliff of Georgia. Samuel L. Haile married in Union Parish Louisiana on 1 September 1870 to Susan Frances Edwards, the daughter of James Edwards and Mary A.E. Parham. They lived in eastern Union Parish near the Village of Haile. They had thirteen children. Haile was buried in the Liberty Cemetery. Also see Haile's obituary.
