Douglas & Lillie Gray, 1904 & 1954

 
The photo of my grandparents in 1904 was taken in the old Pisgah community near the Pisgah
Baptist Church (now Bernice, LA). It must have been a pre-wedding photo as they're each
wearing the other one's wedding band. Douglas has hers on his little finger and she has his
on her ring finger with the ring hanging down over her knuckle. Their wedding was in the
Shackelford home. For several years after their marriage, they lived nearby where their two
children were born - Joel in 1906 and Troyce in 1910.

The 50th anniversary photo in 1954 was taken in New Orleans at their son's home with all of
their family present. Their son was Joel B. Gray, M.D. and daughter was Troyce Gray Smith.
