The Barrons first arrived in Union Parish Louisiana in the latter 1840s from Alabama. Henry Barron (4 Aug 1803 – 7 Apr 1870) settled on the Corney Bayou a few miles south of Spearsville in the spring of 1852. The next year, Henry sold a large portion of his new farm to his son Henry Callaway Barron (4 Dec 1831 – 21 Jan 1911). Henry C. Barron's third wife was Sophronia Ellen Moses (1845 – 20 Sept 1920), and Henry and Ellen's youngest son was Robert Henry Barron (22 May 1879 – 11 July 1953).In the latter 1890s, Robert began courting Ela Rebecca Frances Rockett (18 Feb 1882 – 8 May 1923), the youngest child of Joseph Cannon Rockett and Rebecca A. Upshaw. Ela's father Joe Rockett did not approve of the courtship, as Ela's mother was Robert's first cousin. Attempting to end the relationship, Joe sent Ela away on an extended visit to relatives in Texas, where his aunt Martha Holcombe Bunch and her family had settled. Joe's ploy failed, however, and Ela and Robert married in the summer of 1902. After giving birth to nine children between 1903 and 1920, Ela had another baby born in the spring of 1923. Ela died a few weeks after the birth, suffering a similar fate as her own mother.
Left with a family of nine children, Robert Barron remarried on 27 December 1923 to Ethel Mae Patton (7 Oct 1898 – 31 July 1993).
