- Subdivisions used in the 1900 Census
- All 1870 – 1930 Union Parish censuses are subdivided according to the ward numbers. The Union Parish Police Jury redesigned the wards in 1860, using a total of six wards. In the early 1880s, they created four new wards, bringing the total to ten. However, the 1900 census enumerator only used the old six wards from the 1860 – 1880 period, not the newer ones. The Census Bureau also used their official Enumeration Districts (ED) to subdivide each portion of the parish. The more populous wards had several EDs within their limits, whereas others only included one. For a detailed explanation of the ward boundaries, see our Ward Designations Page.
- 1900 Census Page Numbering
- The simplest way to cite a particular page of the 1900 census is through the sheet numbers stamped on the top, right-hand corner of every other page of the original census enumerations. The pages with the stamped numbers are designated as "A" pages, with the following page designated as the "B" pages. The 1900 Union Parish census runs from sheet number 1A through 193B, listing a total of 18,122 residents.
