Union Parish Louisiana

The Zion Hill Baptist Church was organized between Farmerville and Spearsville in the 1840s. The present-day church is located on property purchased by William Beaird, Sr. (1794 – after 1885) from the government in 1859. Here is a present-day view of the Zion Hill Baptist Church. The Zion Hill Cemetery lies across the road from the church, on property purchased from the government in the 1850s by either William Beaird or Richard F. Rabun. Many graves were marked by mounds of stones in years past. However, when cemeteries began using lawn mowers to cut the grass, the stones were moved. Thus, the cemetery contains numerous unmarked graves. Here is a modern view of the cemetery entrance to the Zion Hill Cemetery.
