Elijah Hubbard Ward

Elijah Hubbard Ward was born in Lowndes County Alabama, the son of David Ward and his wife Cynthia Seale. He moved to what is now Union Parish Louisiana in February 1837 with his parents. He married and operated a plantation in the Bayou d'Loutre region of east/central Union Parish in the 1850s. In the spring of 1862, he enlisted in Company G, 31st Louisiana Infantry, Confederate States Army. He was elected 2nd Lieutenant of the company, and saw service at the Battle of Chickasaw Bayou in December 1862, Battle of Port Gibson in May 1863, and the Siege of Vicksburg, May – July 1863.
