The death date engraved on Pinckney Odom's tombstone is incorrect. A series of newspaper articles chronicle his declining health in October and November 1894. The Farmerville paper carried a notice of his death as occurring on 4 December 1894. We cannot explain why his tombstone marker shows the incorrect death date. Since the newspaper was published within a week of his demise, we believe the date of death given there is reliable, with the tombstone incorrect.
