Last Island, or l'Isle Derniere, was a barrier island that used to lie off the coast of Terrebonne Parish. In 1856, there was a terrible hurricane that leveled all the structures on the island and actually destroyed the island itself. There is no island there today. However, prior to the storm, Last Island was a popular resort destination for tourists living in the region. | ||||
