She was the beloved wife of the late Norman Earl Dorsey, and later the late Peter Sylvas Sr. Mrs. Geneva "Mama" was the devoted and loving mother of Earline D. Banner, Frankie D. Smith, Leona D. Washington, Mary Ann D. Wyatt, Cathy S. Twillie, Victoria S. Foster, Archie Dorsey, Scottie Sylvas, Lonnie Sylvas and Peter Sylvas Jr. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Anita D. Reffells; three sons, Herman Dorsey, Leonard Dorsey and Michael Dorsey and four siblings. Mama had many children and grandchildren that she "adopted" as her own. She was the grandmother of 63 grandchildren, 95 great-granchildren and 12 great-great- grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters, Aleina B. Viner and Mary Batiste. Mrs. Geneva was a lifelong resident of Slidell. She was employed in the medical field at Slidell Memorial Hospital and later did private duty sitting for many families in St. Tammany Parish until she was 90 years old. Her greatest joy was her family with whom she shared her unconditional love and her fervent certain faith in God. She was a true lover of life and people of all backgrounds. Mrs. Geneva "Mama," as she was affectionately known by all, never met a stranger, and her heart and home was always open to any and everyone. She had numerous friends and touched each of their lives in a special way as well. Her Mt. Olive Church family had a special place in her heart. She was a kind, generous, soft-spoken, yet a courageous, phenomenal woman. Our family has suffered a tremendous loss as well as the community of Slidell. She will be greatly missed by all who had the sincere pleasure of knowing her. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend her Home Going Celebration at 11 a.m. Saturday Jan. 29, at the Mt. Olive AME Church, 2457 Second St., Slidell. Viewing is from 9 - 11 a.m. Arrangements by Doyle Funeral Home, Slidell. ===================
