She slipped from her mortal coil early Sunday morning Jan 9. She envisioned herself as a spiritual being having a human vacation. Her can-do attitude was inspirational. And her cooking was heavenly. Annamaria helped others achieve their dreams, and she achieved her own dream: to be financial controller of a multi-million, multi-national corporation, which she did at Oshman's. There she helped turn loss to profit with the transition from in-mall stores to stand-alone stores, and where her signature could transfer tens of millions of dollars. Annamaria was born on Thanksgiving Day in 1948 in San Diego, Calif., of Spanish/Indian descent. She graduated from Sweetwater High School in National City, attended San Diego State University and was the first college graduate in her family. She was awarded her doctorate from Loyola Marymount University, and married Larry Modes in June 1981. She delivered a 12-poound 10-ounce son, Nicholas Alexander, in Pasadena, Calif., (she did everything in a big way), and died in 2011 in Covington after a month hospital confinement. Annamaria and Larry got married at sunset on the Pacific Ocean beaches of Santa Monica Bay, Calif., in a 3-candle Unity church service and stayed married for 29 1/2 years, travelling to all 48 states, Canada, and Mexico. They lived on all three U.S. coasts: Pacific, Atlantic and Gulf. She won a date with Larry on a bet, and their first kiss changed his world. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Final arrangements have not been made. In lieu of flowers, please consider an annual gift in her name to Au'inca, a charity that helps reservation children and elderly in New Mexico: Au'inca Door of Hope, P.O. Box 6307, Paris, TX 75461. Her father and all four of her grandparents (and beyond) were born in New Mexico. Even though her family had been off-res since the Spanish occupation, Annamaria felt deeply for the plight of those on the reservations where there are few resources and fewer opportunities. Peace and abundance, Larry. Mrs. Annamaria Chavez Modes passed away on Sunday, January 9, 2011. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time. ===================
