Eleanor Ruth Shapiro Hedges Miller Bowers passed away on Monday, January 24, 
2011 at the age of 81. 

"Ellie" was born in Brooklyn, New York to her parents, Max and Gertrude Shapiro. 

She completed high school in Wantagh, NY and then attended interior design 
school. She lived on Long Island, NY for 50 years, in Atlanta, GA for 10 years 
and on the Northshore of LA for 21 years. 

Ellie is survived by her husband, Robert Bowers; her sisters, Florence Wilnau 
and Maxine Bartow; her children, David Hedges, Donna Hedges Plunkett and Dean 
Hedges; her grandchildren, Amanda Beard, Max Plunkett, Valerie Plunkett and 
William Plunkett; her niece Linda Kaleita; and her nephew Lee Bartow.

Ellie loved chatting with people, reading, cooking and playing games. She was 
especially good at bridge and became ranked as a Gold Life Master of the 
American Contract Bridge League. On Long Island, Ellie owned a full-time club 
and taught some students that became World Champions. She played her last game 
in November, 2010 and was first overall contestants. 

Ellie's admitted goal was to be loved by everyone and she succeeded in that, 
too.

It was Ellie's wish that her family enjoy a Celebration of Life party, which
will be arranged at a later date.
