He was baptized on the 5 Sept. 1877 in the Alto Presbyterian Church in Alto, LA; he married Amelia "Mittie" Wharton Austin on 19 March 1896 in Lincoln Parish, LA; Joseph is the son of Samuel Strother Boughton and Elizabeth Frances Archibald. Mittie is the daughter of Phillip Harrison Austin and Lettie Ammie Wharton. They are both buried in Gwinn Cemetery, Mangham, LA.
