Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA Funeral services for Mr. Marlin Leon Smith, Sr., 82, of Monroe, will be held at 10:00 AM Monday, April 13, 2009, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Rev. Dennis Austin officiating. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM Monday at Forest Park Cemetery in Shreveport, LA with Rev. Tim Matkin officiating. Mr. Smith, a retired owner and operator of Smith Furniture passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2009. He was a member of the Ouachita Power Squadron for over 30 years, and had the honor to serve as their commander. Mr. Smith enjoyed sports especially during the baseball and football seasons. His favorite hobbies included fishing and hunting with his many good friends. But most of all, he enjoyed cruises and traveling with his wife Mary Ann. Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years (on Monday the 13th) Mary Ann Smith; four children, Kenneth Ray Smith of Shreveport, LA, Marlin Leon Smith, Jr. of Monroe, LA, Rebecca Ann Smith of West Monroe, LA, and Deborah Jane Opal and husband Steve of Snoqualmie, WA; grand children, Derrick Ray Smith, Timothy Miles Matkin, Bart Dwayne Smith, Mary Elizabeth Krogmeier, Brandi Glennon, Marlin Leon Smith III, Ann Lynn Smith, Logan Glennon; seven great grandchildren from Washington state to Mississippi; nieces and nephews, Wanda and Dick Jett, Bob and Jo Ruth Maness, Melba and Parnell Oldham, Sharon and Jim Mabus, Ivan and Gloria Smith; and many great nieces and nephews. Pallbearers for the funeral service will be members of the Ouachita Power Squadron, and for the graveside service will be Mike Brooks, Michael Goodwin, Stanley Procell, Derrick Smith, Bart Smith and Logan Glennon. Honorary pallbearers for the graveside service will be Lewis Jones, Dick Jett, Leon Smith, Bob Maness and Ivan Smith. Visitation will be Monday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
