Red River Parish was created in 1871 from the Parishes of Bienville, Bossier, Caddo, DeSoto, and Natchitoches. This parish was named for the Red River flowing through it and is one of 64 parishes in the state. It contains the villages of Coushatta, Edgefield, Hall Summit, and Martin. The seat is Coushatta.
