Leon N. Harrod Succumbs TodayHarrod, owner of Harrod Bros. Funeral Home with his wife and son since 1946, died 5:50 a.m.today at his home after a short illness. A Franklin County native, he was the son of the late Elizabeth Wells and Cecil S. Harrod. A Navy veteran of World War II, Harrod was a graduate of Frankfort High School and the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 7, charter member of the Frankfort Capital City Shrine Club, Hiram Lodge No. 4 F&AM, Royal Arch, Knights Templar, Olieka Shrine Temple, Lexington, and the Lexington Consistory of Scottish Rite Masons. He was also a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Capital Lodge and the Frankfort Chamber of Commerce. Harrod served as Franklin County Sheriff for one four-year term, was a commonwealth detective for eight years and was Franklin County Coroner for 16 years. He had served as director of the Central District of the Kentucky Funeral Directors Association and was president of the association board. A partner in the Capital City Thoroughbred Racing Stable, he served as a member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and the American Red Cross. He was a member of the First Christian Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Doris Johnson Harrod; one son, Michael L. Harrod, Frankfort; two daughters, Mrs Patricia Ann Harrod Hoover, and Linda K. Harrod, both of Frankfort; one sister, Mrs. Charles Rawlings, Franklin County and four grandchildren. Honorary bearers will be Fred Meyer, Forrest Hoover, Sam Boden, George (Harry) Ratliff, William Northrup, Foster Ratliff, William T. Hockensmith, Fred Bradley, Al Dix, Bruce Dungan and Jack Rhorer. Active bearers will be Donald Bryan, Hugh Hudson, Dr. James Ramsey, Rodney Ratliff, Dr. Scott Green, Frank Marinaro, Howard Norell and E. C. (Jack) Penn. Masonic services will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday at Harrod Brothers Chapel.
Rebecca DennisonBorn in Anderson Co. March 6, 1898 to the late Mrs. Matilda Martin and Joseph Ward, she was the widow of Charlie Dennison and a former Stagg Distillery employee. She died 12:50 a.m. Friday at King's Daughters' Memorial Hospital after a short illness. Surviving her are her granddaughter, Mrs. Earl F. WIlson, and her grandson, Charles Lee Boler, both of Frankfort. Bearers will be Jesse Ward, Raymond Hulette, Sandy, David and Earl Wilson, and Charles Boler. Friends may call at Harrod Bros. Mrs. Thelma CorbinA native of Franklin County, she was born Jan. 24, 1932, the daughter of Mrs. Louise May Hensley and the late David Hensley. She owned and operated the D&A Market at Choateville and was a member of the First Baptist Church. Surviving are her husband, Perry Corbin, Frankfort; mother, Mrs. Louise May Hensley, Frankfort; one daughter Mrs. Bobby Jean Black, Frankfort, and one granddaughter, Miss Michele Lee Smith, Frankfort.
Mrs. Laura MooreBorn in Franklin County Feb. 5, 1906, to the late Will and Nancy Shingleton Morrow, Mrs. Moore and her husband had owned and operated Moore's Point Liquors here for many years. Mrs. Moore was a member of the Camp Pleasant Baptist Church. She died at 2 a.m. today in Heritage Hall Nursing Home, Lawrenceburg, following a long illness. Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jesse R. Gregory, Frankfort; one son, Jesse Moore, Jr., Frankfort; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Johnson, Springfield, Ohio, and Mrs. Ruby Purvis, Frankfort; four brothers, J. D. Morrow, James Morrow, Jesse Morrow and Arthur Morrow, all of Frankfort, three [remainder of obituary missing].
Elbert H. McMaineA native of Madison County, h was born Sept. 2, 1912, the son of the late Zadie Newman McMaine and Claude N. McMaine. He was a retired carpenter, a member of the Frankfort Senior Citizens and a member of the Un-Denomination Christian Church. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Estes McMaine, Frankfort; one son, Delbert C. McMaine, Georgetown; one daughter, Wilma Jewell Hedden, Frankfort; four brothers, Tom McMaine, Hawsville; Carl McMaine, Robert McMaine, and Ralph McMaine, all of Bybee; two sisters Miss Bertrice McMaine, Frankfort, and Mrs. Jane Rose, Estill County; one granddaughter, Lynn M. McMaine, and one grandson, Jeffrey B. McMaine, both of Georgetown. Honorary bearers will be Albert Cinnamon, James Dickerson, John Hamilton, Gene Webb, John Henry Rose, Huge Dotson, William Housechild, Dr. E. S. Kimbel and his nephews.
