"Hi Valerie, Remember me telling you there was a story to Old Sardis? Well here it is. You see the 7 tombstones lined in a row? Well Stanley & Winnie Cox inherited the Jonus D. Wilson farm after his death. The homestead had an old family cemetery on it. They found it when they were clearing the field. Course Stanley didn't want it there so he moved the stones to Sardis. Some relatives seem to recall they moved a few bones, but for the most part story goes they didnt move them all. That's just what is left of them. This cemetery looks empty, but it's NOT. There used to be stones up in the center, but they where reduced to a pile of rock thrown by the fence. Now even the pile is gone. Mom has some record from older relatives that remember a few of the people buried here, but their stones are gone now." --Debbi

A photograph of this cemetery was found among the belongings of Debbi's great grandmother, Ollie (1895-1992): "...found an old picture of Adams Cemetery which is now Sardis Cemetery. My greatgrandmother wrote on the back of the picture... names of 8 relatives that were buried in Sardis cemetery..." Thank you, Debbi & Priscilla, for sharing these precious photos!
