RENO County is located on both sides of the Arkansas River, in the south-central part of the State. It is hounded on the north by Rice and McPherson; on the east by Harvey and Sedgwick; on the south, by Sedgwick and Kingman, and on the west, by Pratt and Barton counties. The county which is the second largest county in the State, is forty-two miles long, from east to west, and thirty miles from north to south, and contains thirty-five congressional townships, or 1,260 square miles.₁

Organized in 1872. County seat Hutchinson. In memory of Jesse L. Reno, Captain United States army, and Major-General of Volunteers, who was killed in battle Sept. 14, 1862, at South Mountain, Md.₂
